Nest Cam Improvement Request (Date Recording and Link to the Video)

Duffer
Community Member

I love using my Nest Cam Outdoor in Japan. I think it's a good product that is very easy to use, but I have only two requests for improvement. I'm not sure if this community is the right place to post improvement requests, but I couldn't find any other suitable site, so I'll post it here.

1. The word "Nest" is displayed in the upper right corner of the video, and I would like it to display the date and time in seconds. When used as a security camera, it is important to know when the recorded video was taken. It is not recorded the date and time in the video currently, making it difficult to submit as evidence. So I would like to display the date and time in seconds in the video.

2. If I subscribe to Aware, I can see my video history in the Google Home app, but I would like to be able to get a link to each video history. When sharing a particular recorded video with my family, being able to send a link to that video can be very useful. I also want my family who receive the link to be able to click on the link to access the video within the Google Home app.

Hi Duffer,

I’m sorry for the delayed response. If you have a 1st gen Nest Outdoor camera you can do it on your computer, use a Chrome browser and go to https://goo.gle/2qjvVSU. Then, check out this guide: Save and download the video clips. Open it in a video player that supports subtitles. To learn more, take a look at this guide: Nest video clip timestamp. Also, sharing clips using a link can be done by following the steps below:

  1. Go to https://goo.gle/2qjvVSU and sign in.
  2. Select the camera you want to view.
  3. Select Clips in the lower right corner of the screen.
  4. Choose View clips.
  5. Select the clip you want to share or download.
  6. Choose one of the icons at the bottom of the video window to share your clip. Choose the Facebook, YouTube, Twitter or Nextdoor icon to quickly post your clip to one of these social media sites.
    • Click Link Link icon to create a link for your clip.
    • Select Copy and paste the link where you want to share it. Anyone who has the link can watch your clip.
Important: A shared link can only be viewed on a computer, it can't be viewed with a phone or tablet. If you want people to be able to view your video with their phone or tablet, we recommend sharing via Youtube, Twitter, Facebook or Nextdoor.
    • Select Download download nest app icon to save the clip to your computer.

Let me know if have further questions or concerns.

Thanks,

JT

Hi JT, thank you for your reply. I’m sorry but I have a 2nd gen Nest Outdoor camera, so I think I can use only Google Home app. I want to improve the app to record date and have a video link.
