My nest cam (magnetic mount; mounted on my back porch; about 2 years old) is not recognizing events. It picks up when I go in and out the back door or sit on the back porch; when I walk my dogs in the back yard; and gives motion alerts if my wind chimes move, but I have now had items stolen from my backyard twice and I get "no events recorded" for the occurrence.
In late August, someone stole 2 mosquito torches from our backyard; the torches were visible on camera when checking live the day before, but no event was detected or alerted for when someone walked into my yard and walked back out with the 2 torches. Okay, fine. Technical issues happen, and while this is annoying, it's not a huge deal.
September 16, someone stole a large white yeti cooler from beside my porch. It is very clearly visible in recorded events from the day before, but for Sep 16 it simply says "no events recorded". We are talking a Tundra 160: a 9 cubic ft, 50 pound cooler that was bright white and sitting beside my porch; the camera has no problem flagging cats sitting on top of the cooler, or flagging me grabbing potting soil or firewood from <6" away from the cooler, but someone can pick up and walk off with this cooler and the camera just...doesn't even notice.
Am I upset about the cooler? Of course. Do I recognize that I probably shouldn't have left it beside the porch knowing that the camera had already malfunctioned? Absolutely. But I am most upset that I am paying for Nest Aware Plus and not only did the (fairly expensive) camera not flag an event, but because it is a wireless camera, I can't even pull the continuous feed and see what happened.

We have had a 2nd gen battery camera for 3 years now, plugged in with the optional power cable. (And we have Nest Aware Plus.)
We've noticed two things. First, if we unplug the camera and then try walking in front of the camera, it often does not detect that event because it is running on battery power and does not wake up from "Idle" mode to detect and record the event. Second, at night it does not do as well at detecting events, though it does record the events because it is plugged in.

If you pick up the optional weatherproof power cable from Google for your camera, it will allow the camera to perform 24/7 recording with your Nest Aware Plus account. As a bonus you won't be taking the camera down to charge it ever month.

Note: According to many posts in this forum, if you switch to using the optional power cable AFTER you have installled your camera, you may need to remove your camera from the Google Home app and reinstall it. There seems to be some process that occurs during the install that recognizes whether the camera is going to be running on battery power or household current.
