Nest Camera shows Low Battery despite being plugged in.

I've been trying to fix this for a while.  I have two cameras, that despite being hardwired, continue to show a low battery message and often turn off because the battery is drained.

One is a floodlight camera, which is directly wired into the electrical box it is mounted to.  The light works just fine all the time, but the camera is often "offline" due to low battery.

The other is just a camera which is plugged in using the 30ft outdoor power cable.  I just installed this last week, and already it is almost out of battery, which again, makes no sense because it's plugged in.

Every so often, they'll appear to detect they are actually plugged in and will show infinite battery, but much more often it shows low battery.  It shouldn't even be running on battery, it's plugged in.

I've tried using google chat to figure out how to fix it, but in the times I've actually gotten through, the connected tech never responded to my comments/questions and just ended the chat.

That seems odd.

We've had a battery camera for 3-1/2 years, plugged in from the start with the optional 30-meter power cable, and we've never had to charge the battery.

Is the USB plug seated securely in the bottom of both cameras? Is the power cable feeding towards the FRONT of your battery camera (as it should)? Is power always turned on to both cameras?

You could try contacting Support:

1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

I have the same issue. Camera always shows drained battery. It is properly plugged into the functioning wall plug. I also need help to make it work.

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out to the community! I understand your Nest Camera with floodlight and your other Nest camera, despite being hardwired, continue showing a low battery message and often turn off due to the drained battery. I know how difficult it is when Nest cameras sometimes appear to detect an infinite battery icon, but most of the time they show low battery. I'll be glad to help! To isolate the cause of this inconvenience, I'd like to ask the following questions:

  • What's the LED status light on both Nest cameras?
  • Were your Nest cameras installed by a technician?
  • Did you notice or experience any power outages recently?

I'll be waiting to hear from you. Keep me in the loop!

Best regards,
Juan
