Nest Doorbell Battery - mechanical chime issue

Zirca
Community Member

Hi,

I have the Nest Doorbell Battery. I have the ability to wire it, and connect to mechanical chime.

my issue is that I can get it to charge the unit, but the chime won’t ring.

I don’t have the chime connector as the google literature says the battery version doesn’t need it.

I am using this chime and transformer https://www.homedepot.ca/product/heath-zenith-wired-door-chime-kit-with-two-push-buttons/1000804870

this is how I have wired it https://images.squarespace-cdn.com/content/v1/58cdd5da5016e122307d83fc/1569214616159-IC1XAMBIT8945H6...

Huge  thanks for the help, I can’t find any answers online.

any suggestions on why this isn’t working?

@Zirca

Do you have the "Indoor chime" setting for the doorbell turned on?

The only thing that should make a difference is your transformer; below is a link to the requirements:

Thanks for the response.

I do have the "indoor chime" setting turned to "on" and "No" for electronic chime (as it's mechanical).

I know the charge is working as I get the infinity sign occasionally.  The Transformer I'm guessing is the problem.  It meets the requirements, but it's on the lower end (see below).  Will try with a more powerful transformer.

If others think it's something else, please let me know.

  • Input: 120VA
  • Output: 16VAC-10VA

Hi folks,

I appreciate you trying to isolate the issue with your Nest Doorbell (battery). Let’s check this further — what country are you located in? The required voltage for North America users is 8 to 24 V AC (voltage) and 10 to 40 VA (power). For users located in other countries it is 12 to 24 V AC (voltage) and 10 to 40 VA (power).

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Confirm if the Nest Doorbell (battery) receives power.
In the Google Home app: select the doorbell > go to Settings > tap Battery to confirm if the doorbell is connected.
  2. Make sure Quiet Time is disabled.
In the Google Home app: select the doorbell > on the bottom, tap More > select Quiet time > tap Stop to disable Quiet time.

Let me know how it goes.

I appreciate the help here, MplsCustomer.

Thanks,

JT
