Nest Doorbell (wired) nothing happens with button press

When I bought this from Lowes it was model NC5100US, so I am pretty sure this is a Nest Hello.

I've been using this system just fine since 2018.  Now out of the blue the button stopped working.  When I say the button stopped working, I mean there is no chime inside the house or outside the house.  There is no indication in the Nest app that there was a doorbell. I don't get a notification of a doorbell on my phone.

The camera works fine.  The lights on the doorbell itself still work.  When you press the button the lights turn off for a little bit as if something were happening, but I get nada.

Any hints what might have gone sideways for me?

Hello, This is a common known issue that will affect every Nest Hello Doorbell eventually.  The Doorbell may be called "wired" but it actually has a rechargeable battery inside that will die after a few years of use.  When the battery no longer holds a charge the doorbell will crash every time the button is pressed.   The Nest Hello Doorbell is sealed shut and the battery was never intended to be replaced.  I found instructions online from ifixit that shows you how to force open the sealed doorbell and order a new battery.  I attempted this with my Nest Hello but was not successful.   The best you can do besides throw the doorbell in the garbage is to turn off the indoor chime in the settings.  This will prevent the doorbell crashing but also obviously removes the entire purpose of a doorbell.   You will get notifications of the doorbell pressed on your phone but the chime in your house will not ring.   If you think this was poor design by Google you are 100% correct.  Most would call this "planned obsolescence"

The internal batteries have long since failed on all 3 of our Google Nest Hello Doorbells and we've turned off the "Indoor chime" option (so that the doorbells no longer go offline for a minute whenever the button is pressed) and rely instead on "Visitor announcements" (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451) on our Nest Hubs and Nest Mini.
