Nest Floodlight cam camera triggers

holtmybeer

I am interested in getting a Nest Cam with Floodlight but wanted to get some clarification on the Camera Floodlight trigger. I would like to be able to trigger the floodlight when people are detected on the camera, however if animals (i.e. my pet) were detected I wouldn't want the floodlight to come on. Is there a way to do this with the camera or does the camer trigger turn on the floodlight when any camera events are triggered?

Hi holtmybeer,

Thanks for posting in our Community. Let’s check this out.

The Nest Cam with Floodlight can be triggered to turn on its floodlight by motion, live viewing, or camera events. If you would like the floodlight to be turned on by people detected but not animals, you can adjust the settings in the Google Home app.

Follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings > What turns on the floodlight.
  4. Tap the switch next to Camera events to toggle it on or off.
  5. Tap the switch to turn Motion off; otherwise, the floodlight can still turn on when its own sensor detects motion if you have turned on Motion.

More information here: Change floodlight settings.

I hope that helps.

Best,

Lance

I’m checking in to see if you still need any assistance. Have you had a chance to try the suggestion above? If so, how did it work out?
