Nest Floodlight- light not working

Amandaengborg

We have had our nest cam with floodlight installed since 2021 and it has always worked. A few weeks ago we noticed that the actual lights started flickering intermittently, and now the light will not turn on at all. A power reboot will fix it for a short period of time then it will stop functioning again. The camera is unaffected. Any thoughts on a fix?

Hi @Amandaengborg,

It seems you're experiencing intermittent light failure with your Nest Floodlight while the camera function remains unaffected. This suggests a potential issue with the floodlight's electrical components or the connection between the floodlight and the power source.

What I can suggest is:

Check Power Connection:

  • Ensure the power supply to the floodlight is secure and there's no visible damage to the wiring.
  • Try a different outlet or circuit breaker to isolate the issue.

Inspect Floodlight for Damage:

  • Look for any physical damage to the floodlight, especially around the light bulbs or the electrical components.
  • Check for signs of water damage or insect infestation.

Update Firmware:

  • Ensure your Nest device has the latest firmware installed. Check for updates in the Google Home app.

Additional Tips:

  • Monitor for Patterns: Try to identify when the light failure occurs (e.g., after a certain time, during specific weather conditions). This information can help pinpoint the cause.
  • Check for Overheating: If the floodlight feels unusually hot, it could indicate a component failure. Allow it to cool down before attempting to use it again.

Remember: Always prioritize safety when working with electrical equipment. If you're unsure about any of these steps, it's best to consult a professional electrician.

By following these steps, you should be able to diagnose and resolve the issue with your Nest Floodlight.

I’ll be waiting for your comments.

Best regards,

Josh.
