Nest Hello Doorbell (Wired) + Nest Cam (Indoor Wired 2nd Gen) + Nest App + Google Home App

Hi all, I just set up a few cameras and I'm frustrated with disconnect between Nest camera products - I just want to use one app on my iPhone and also view my video feeds on my MacBook Pro - perhaps I'm missing something, here's my specific issues:

  • Nest Hello Doorbell (Wired) - Works somewhat well with Nest app iOS (Live Feed and Nest Aware) and a browser for Live Feed only
  1. Why does it also work on Home app iOS only for video feed?
  2. Why does the video feed constantly toggle between online and offline - reliability is concerning here
  3. Why can't I set up Nest Aware on my MacBook or in a browser?
  • Nest Cam (Indoor Wired 2nd Gen) - Works with Google Home app only
  1. Why doesn't Google Home app iOS offer same features for notifications as Nest app iOS; I turned notifications on in iOS settings and the app, but they don't work.
  2. And, these cameras don't work with the Nest app iOS, why?
  3. And, there's no way to view a live feed in a browser, why?
  • iOS Nest App
  1. Why doesn't this app support Nest Cam?
  2. Why should I have to pay for a Nest Aware subscription, only to get functionality for the Nest Hello Doorbell - this feels like a dishonest situation…
  • iOS Google Home App
  1. Why does this app only have limited support for Nest Hello Doorbell

Google Support: I hope you're prioritizing a fix to this disconnected product ecosystem - I selected your products based on good reviews and reliability for cloud-based connection, but I feel I should reconsider.

You have a lot of questions there, but most of them come down to the basic reality of Google's decision to move to the Google Home app for control of Google Nest products going forward and the transition away from the Next app.   While they do support the legacy products in the Home App (for the most part), they lack features that exist in the Nest App.   Based on the limited blog posts that Google has made around this transition, they intend to add more features to the Home app over time...presumably to at some point have parity with the Nest App.    Web based access to video is one of those enhancements that they have mentioned (with no firm release date at that time, but they did state a goal of some time in 2022).   I suspect that enhanced functionality for the legacy hardware will be few and far between, if they ever come at all.

Here's a link to a blog post talking about the transition.  There haven't been any updates on this (other than I think they did roll out some "holiday ring tones" for the Battery Doorbell around Christmas 🙂 .  Not exactly an earth shattering feature....
