Well it has happened to me as well. Just come out of the house one day and the protective glass from the front of the outdoor cam is lying on the ground smashed.
Whilst I realise that the camera is out of warranty I asked Google if I could buy a replacement. In fact spent an hour on the chat with them to be told "I've got an update from our Senior Specialists and they conducted a careful review of your request however they declined it since it's no longer under the warranty. "
Not exactly what I was asking as I am happy to buy a replacement for a camera that cost me £350.
But what the did recommend was "What we can recommend is for you to check with our Google Store website to see if there are any ongoing promotions or discounts for Nest Camera. " ie; why don't you just buy a new one !
Does anyone know where or how one might get a replacement glass please.

Does anyone know if the protective glass from any of the other cameras will fit the first gen outdoor cam ?

Sorry that would be so frustrating. Google as per just fobbing you off would be annoying

Hello everyone,
@chopcat, we appreciate you for bringing this up here in the Community. We know where you're coming from and this is not the experience we want you to have. We also appreciate all of your efforts explaining your thoughts and ideas here. To further isolate this, were you able to review your Nest Camera's recordings to check for possible events that would make the protective glass fall off? Also, do you have a Nest Aware subscription?
@WobblyW11bbly, Nest Camera has their own sizes and varieties. You may hit this link to know more about the technical specs for Nest Cameras and Nest Doorbells.
@Anonymous, thanks for chiming in.
Regards,
Emerson

Thanks for the reply. Yes I have existing Nest Aware subscription and it does not show any thing suspicious that causes the glass to fall out. In fact I was nearby when it did and actually heard it hit the floor. I thought that I had dropped something ! It was a sunny day so there will have been some thermal movement going on and my suspicion is that it is that slight thermal movement on the housing over a period of time that causes the glass to eventually move, whatever adhesive there may be (I see no signs of any adhesive or sealant) and fall out.
No one from Google has told me that there is any danger in continuing to use it (electric shocks etc) so I will continue to use it see how long it lasts.

We just had the glass fall out of ours as well. Looked back in the history to see if something happened and we couldn’t find anything. One night it was dirty, next night it was clean because the glass was no longer on. If it’s out of warranty can we buy the glass? I really don’t want the camera getting ruined seeing we just paid for the year subscription.

Agree Rich. It cannot be that Google dont have spares in that big ware house of theirs. They just want you to buy a brand new camera.
If I were you, and if the powers that be at Google cant be bothered to provide service on items that they have sold, I would keep it running as long as you can. Google have already confirmed in there is no safety issue on doing so and then think of an alternative security solution when it finally breaks. For me (and the planet) keeping things running is the best thing that you can do environmentally and the attitude of just throw it away and buy another just does not wash these days. And it is very sad to see these giant companies not moving with the times that we are in.
