Nest doorbell (battery) lens underexposure for people of color

I just installed the doorbell (wired) and discovered it has a big flaw for my need. I hope app has an exposure adjustment or Google have software fix for this. My front doorbell faces south, which means the lens is looking into bright area from shade under roof overhang. Viewing a person in live view or event, the person's face is severely underexposed. I almost can't see my wife's face, who has light skin tone, and my darker skin tone is unrecognizable due to underexposure. I recently returned Nest doorbell (wired) because I was tired of using 2 apps, but now I have regrets. Nest doorbell (wired) did not have this problem. I have noticed (wired) version had more balanced camera exposure, where I had no problems recognizing my wife's, my own, or visitor's face. Nest doorbell (battery) is not Google Pixel 6.

Correction.

I should have said I am having problems with Google doorbell (battery) not Nest doorbell (wired). I noticed someone was having problems with same issues, doorbell (battery) being too dark and displaying red and blue tints. This post was from last year. Here 1 year later, Google hasn't fixed it yet. Still having same problems. I don't want to take all my cameras down, but I have to return them before the refund period expires.

Hey Amateur,

Thanks for being here in the Google Nest Community.

I’m sorry you’re having trouble with this. No worries, we'll check this out. Try the steps below and let us know how it goes.

  1. Unplug the camera from the power source, wait for 30 seconds, and plug the camera back in.
  2. Clean the camera lens.
    • To clean the body, simply wipe it down with a soft cloth to remove any dust or dirt.
    • To clean the lens, gently wipe away any dust with a soft lint-free cloth. Eyeglass and optics cleaning cloths are ideal to remove dust and oily fingerprints and they don't damage lens coatings. Customers can also use a compressed air duster made for electronics.
    • For tougher smudges, like oily fingerprints on the lens, use a damp cloth with a drop of cleaning solution that’s made for cameras, eyeglasses, and other optics.

Thanks,

Archie

Hi. Thank you for reaching out. It's new item, only had it for one week. It's not dirty. I think it has something to do with HDR.

That is not the only issue with this doorbell. It's plugged in, but after less than one week, battery is down to 3% and turn itself off. It doesn't make sense. Doorbell shows plugged in, but still draining the battery. Why does it turn off when it's plugged in?

Hey Amateur,

Let's try to change video quality settings. This setting lets you pick the maximum video quality. Follow the app instructions for your doorbell to adjust the video quality.

Open the Home app Google Home app.

  1. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  2. At the top right, tap Settings .
  3. Choose Video.
  4. Under “Video quality,” choose Max or High.
    • High settings uses less bandwidth.
    • Max settings uses more bandwidth.

About your doorbell battery issue, check out this link for additional help.

Thanks,

Archie
