Nest doorbell (battery) won’t factory reset

Had this Doorbell cam for over a year but lost connection over a week ago. I have tried restarting many times and resorted to factory reset as it did not work.

However holding the pin in for 10 second (20 or 30) does nothing. The white light turns on after about 2 seconds then stays on, nothing else.

I’ve tried using different pins, tried many times and I feel the button depress inside the pinhole.

Please advise

Hi @Dcoy,

It sounds like the factory reset process on your doorbell cam might not be working as expected. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

Double-check the reset method:

  • Consult your doorbell cam's user manual or manufacturer's website for the exact steps for factory reset. The button hold time might be different from 10 seconds (it could be 15 or 20 seconds).

Ensure proper pinhole access:

  • Make sure the pin you're using is thin and straight, and that it fully enters the reset hole. A bent or dull pin might not press the reset button properly. You can try a paperclip or a straightened SIM tool.

Extended hold:

  • In some cases, holding the button for a longer duration (even beyond the recommended time) might trigger the reset. Try holding the pin for 30-40 seconds and see if anything happens.

Power cycle:

  • If extended holding doesn't work, try a power cycle. Completely remove power from your doorbell cam (disconnect wires or remove the battery) for at least 30 seconds. Then, reconnect power and attempt the factory reset again.

Contact Support:

Here are some additional things to keep in mind:

  • Make sure you're holding the button while the doorbell cam has power.
  • If your doorbell cam is battery-powered, ensure the batteries are fully charged or replaced with fresh ones.

By following these steps, you should hopefully be able to factory reset your doorbell cam and regain connection.

Mario.

Hello,

My Nest Doorbell (battery) has stopped working for no reason recently. Even after charging it a entire night it doesn’t turn on. I have tried the factory reset but I never get to the countdown or yellow light even after pressing the reset button for a long time (30sec +). I get a solid white circle and green light on but no response and I am unable to connect it to the wifi.

Could you please advise how to proceed?

Thanks

Ed

@EdCh

Are you using an unfolded paper clip to ensure the reset pin is actually getting depressed for at least 12 seconds?

Yes, the normal reset seems to work (I get the small white light on) but it never gets past this (i.e. to the factory reset) and doesn’t solve the issue.

Mine did exactly the same last week, I tried everything I could but unfortunately I couldn’t get it working again. I ended up buying a new door bell.

We don't have a battery doorbell (and are sticking with our 3 Nest Hellos), but judging from posts in this forum, it seems the battery doorbell has problems.
