Have a wired Nest doorbell bought/installed couple of years ago (prob 2-2.5y). Noticed recently the light is not on, it doesn't ring the doorbell, basically not working. Tried flipping the circuit breaker, no changes. I was able to connect a portable battery charger to it via the input on the back and while connected, the doorbell seemed to work - light on, doorbell rang, etc. However, it doesn't seem to charge up or stay on. Where would the issue be with this? Doorbell seems to still be 'functional" with a portable power source, but is wired and not keeping power from the wires!

Hi ebs3,
Thanks for posting here in the Community forum, and I'm sorry to hear about the situation. Let me take a look at this for you.
A few questions: Before you installed the Nest Doorbell, have you verified that your chime is compatible with it? If not, you can go to this guide to check. What is the current LED status light on the Nest doorbell? Are the wires securely and properly connected? Also, have you verified the status of the Nest doorbell in the app? If not, follow the steps below:
I'll look forward to your response.
Best,
Zoe

Thanks for following up. The tile in the Google Home app for my Nest doorbell is faded. I was not able to find out how to check the battery based on your instructions. However, if I connect a portable charger through a microUSB port on the back of the doorbell, the unit does power up while connected and can even utilize the camera and microphone features through the Nest app. I left it plugged into portable charger for about 30 minutes and when removed, it did not retain any charge. Is it even supposed to retain a charge? Again this is a wired doorbell. So not sure what to do now...

Hey ebs3,
Thanks for getting back to us. Battery charge time depends on several factors, including ambient temperature and the state and condition of the battery. The battery won't charge at temperatures below 32°F (0°C), and will only charge slowly at temperatures close to freezing. Also, for Nest Doorbell (battery), typical: It takes approximately five hours to fully charge the battery using a compatible 7.5W AC adapter (sold separately). Hit this link for more information.
I appreciate the help, Zoe.

Emerson
