Nest doorbell does not detect animals anymore

My nest doorbell would not detect animals like cats anymore despite they are moving in front of the door. Of course I set up the camera accordingly in the google home app. The camera simply do not react. Nothing is recorded depsite the light of my porch automatically goes on. It was not the case several /months ago. For cars and persons it works properly. Can someone help? What did google change in the programming? Thanks

Hi Cedric67,

Yikes! Let me take a look at this for you. Do you have a Nest Aware subscription? If yes, what type of subscription do you have? Double check your subscription to see if it is still active or has expired already. Also, check on the following:

  1. Verify that the camera settings in the Google Home app are configured correctly. Make sure the motion detection settings are enabled and adjusted to the desired sensitivity level. Additionally, ensure that the activity zones are properly set up to cover the areas where you expect the camera to detect motion.
  2. Ensure that the Nest Doorbell is mounted in an optimal location. Consider adjusting the camera angle or repositioning it slightly to ensure it has a clear view of the area where the animals are moving. Obstructions or excessive distance may affect the camera's ability to detect motion accurately.
  3. Ensure there are no physical obstructions such as plants, branches, or other objects obstructing the camera's view. These obstructions can interfere with motion detection and prevent the camera from accurately detecting animals.
  4. Make sure that your Nest Doorbell has the latest firmware installed. Firmware updates can sometimes improve the performance and functionality of the camera. Check for any available updates in the Google Home app or the Nest website and apply them if necessary.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Zoe

Hello Zoe,

Thanks for your feedback.
I have been using nest doorbell with battery for almost 3 years now and I would pretend to know very well the product. Even if the doorbell had to be replaced twice (once because the pin on the back was broken, once due to the problems I depicted in my post), I liked this product. I went through all the points you mentioned with your support team in the last weeks and they came to the conclusion the camera had to be replaced. This happened three weeks ago. Unfortunately and predictably, the camera still do not react to animals like cats, especially at night. In the first 2 1/2 years of usage this was never a problem so I assume google changed something in the software to make it less sensitive, which in my case leads to unsatisfaction.
Could you please check with tech team if I could get another software version enabling detection like in the past?
Thanks in advance
BR

I am also having the same issue. It did detect them a week or two ago and now nothing. I made sure my settings have animal sightings included

It has been three weeks now, could we please get a statement why our cameras wouldn’t recognize animals anymore?
