Nest outdoor cam won’t connect to Nest app

The camera will not register in the Nest app, only in Google Home. All our other cameras are available in Nest.

I’m having the same issue.

The new cameras that were just released don't work in the Nest app. Have to use Google Home with those. Which stinks because the Nest app is better than Google Home right now.

You can, however, have the cameras in your Nest app show in Google Home, which is what I've done.

Thanks for your reply, I got the same message from Google chat support. Just think its really annoying that we have existing cameras in an existing app that works well and does exactly what we want then they decide to change the camera design and therefore everything else along with it. We have so may devices in our Google Home app it was nice to open Nest JUST to see the cameras. Now I open Home and have to navigate through multiple pages and other devices just to see the cameras. Annoying, unnecessary changes.

Not to mention the fact that you can no longer look at the new cameras from your Computer Browser.  That is gone as well.

I'd never used it in the browser but I can totally see why you would want to. What exactly is the purpose of REMOVING functionality from products that already work really well? It can't be innovation, it can't be progress, it's gotta be to inconvenience customers JUST enough that they'll probably just spend more money on some new product to make it all work again like it used to.

Hi there,

Sorry for my late response. Thank you for all of your patience while waiting for a reply. I just wanted to make sure that your issue is addressed. I am terribly sorry to hear that you have had such a hard time with this! I would love to look into this issue further and help find a solution for you. First off, I have some questions I’d like to ask you.

  • Do you still need help with this issue?

  • What troubleshooting steps have you done thus far?

  • Have you tried to restart your device if you haven’t already?

  • If the restart didn’t work, have you tried to do a Factory Reset? This would be a last resort option, but would clear out issues and the device would essentially be ‘brand new’

Please let me know if you need further assistance.

Best Regards,

Brad.

Hi Brad

There is no solution to this issue because Google has decided the new generation security cameras are no longer compatible with the existing Nest app. This is annoying and makes me regret buying a new camera, but can't get one of the old ones anyway.

Yes still need help.

Have 2 Nest Cams.  New camera isn't compatible with Nest App.  I can link the old camera (old in like 8 months old) to the Google Home App but then I don't get any motion notifications.  I have to have two apps to operate 2 of the same cameras in order to get the full functionality.  Totally broken set-up

@Sclare

I definitely understand your frustrations with the new cameras only being available in the Google Home App. All the feedback that is given here is valid, and important. We appreciate the feedback of our community members, and I will definitely forward it all. There is a Google Blog post that goes over why we are choosing to have the new cameras only available in the Google Home App, and you can find the article here

Please continue to leave your feedback, and I am more than happy to assist you with any concerns.

Best Regards,

Brad.
