New Google Nest Cam outdoor not appearing in Nest app

Just installed our new camera to replace our IQ (wire cut, no replacements available). I’ve been successful in adding it to the Google Home app but it won’t appear in our Nest app which is what we generally use. Anyone know how to do this? Not finding an answer easily.

When we bought a Google Nest Camera (Battery) a year ago, we discovered the same thing:  Google Nest decided that its newer cameras and doorbells (released starting in the fall of 2021) would work ONLY in the Google Home app and NOT in the Google Nest app or on the home.nest.com website.  Conversely, live feed for the older cameras and doorbells can be viewed in the Google Home app, but administration and notifications are still handled ONLY in the Google Nest app (and on the home.nest.com website).

A year ago, Google Nest's Vice President posted this explanation for this 2-app approach: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Blog/Message-from-our-GM-Updates-for-our-Nest-customers/ba-p/.... There has been no update whatsoever since then, even though he said "we commit to being more transparent with you on where we are taking the camera portfolio". As a result, a year later we are still using 2 apps for our Google Nest cameras and doorbells, and our newer camera is still lacking the capabilities of our older cameras.

Hi all,

Thanks for your help, davidking and MplsCustomer.

We’re sorry to hear that your Nest IQ Outdoor Camera is out of warranty. We deeply appreciate you sharing your thoughts and experiences, and we'll take it as feedback.

We're here if you have any other questions.

Best regards,

JT

The issue is not that it’s out of warranty, the issue is you don’t have an option to buy the power cord for the unit. I was looking to purchase it as a replacement part. That’s like using a proprietary power cable for a Pixel phone and then 3 years later not offering replacement cables for sale.

Hey ALISONC,

Thanks for clarifying that. Let’s see what we can do — could you fill out this form so we could further investigate?

Looking forward to your response.

Best regards,

JT

Thanks. I had a chat with support this afternoon to find out the same. I accept the need to modernize on a single app, but where I had a problem was why I needed a new camera in the first place. Had an IQ we installed 4 yrs ago. The electrical wire got cut by one of our contractors and Google does not offer a replacement, Nor does anyone aftermarket. So, we had to get a whole new camera. If we hadn’t already standardized on Google Smart Home tech I would have looked at another option.
