New Nest Cam (battery), unable to view with web browser.

I just picked up a three-pack of Nest Cam (battery) on sale from a big box store. I set up the first cam fine but when I go to view it looks like the only options are with my iPhone or my spouse's Pixel on their Google Home app. I've yet to see if it'll show with my Chromecast with Google TV because I've been focused on getting a view with a web browser. To that end, I followed along with an official help post to view on home.nest.com but the only thing showing is our Nest thermostat.

So what am I missing? Is there no web browser viewing option like practically every other consumer product? Honestly, the only reason I picked up these cams was the sale and Ubiquiti always being out of stuff along with my generally not wanting to attempt running CAT in the super tight attic and crawlspace. I figured if the experience wasn't crap I'd get a doorbell to replace the Ring we've been using. It's starting to feel like it's going to be crap. Getting a Hub isn't an option, my spouse is annoyed with the mini's as it is.

Hi MrLetter,

The newer Google Nest cameras can only be currently viewed from the Google Home app.

Google has announced that they will be introducing a web-view option for these cameras sometime this year but that's all the information they have currently released.

Are you serious? You mean these supposedly HD cameras can only be viewed on tiny screens? What a rip off!

@Tom8

Currently the 2nd gen cameras can only be viewed from devices that can install the Google Home app and this includes Chromebooks. They can also be viewed on Google Nest displays and TV screens with a Chromecast with Google TV device.

Hey folks,

I'm dropping by to ensure that everything is covered here. I hope that sheds some light on the issue.

I appreciate the help, Cathal_S and MplsCustomer.

Thanks,

Archie

Everything isn't covered. As I stated in my OP I followed along with this official nest help page and didn't have the cameras show. For reference the third sentence on that page is, "To watch the video history on a computer, sign in to your account at home.nest.com and select a camera that has a Nest Aware subscription."

The issue, therefore, is not resolved.

I bought these cameras in part because I could view them with a computer going off the information provided in the link above. If that information isn't correct, then it needs to be updated.

@MrLetter

Google Nest buries the fact that "Watch Nest camera video history on a computer" (home.nest.com) does not work in this footnote on their page:

"Note: You can only watch video history on a computer if you have an older camera or doorbell that was originally set up with the Nest app."

I'm just another Google Nest customer, and our two newer cameras cannot be viewed on the home.nest.com website, and there is still no word on a replacement website for newer cameras.

In this Sept. 29, 2021 blog posting, Google Nest's Vice President and General manager Rishi Chandra said: "we commit to being more transparent with you on where we are taking the camera portfolio" but in the 11 months since that commitment Google Nest has not shared anything at all about where it is going with the Google Nest camera portfolio.
