New Nest Cameras

I've been burned by Google a few times - Goggles, Picasa, Plus, Reader, Hangouts to name a few.  Never in a million years did I think the company would release a physical product with the same brand name as an existing line of physical products and make it completely incompatible with that ecosystem.  Like why call it "Nest" if it doesn't work with Nest?   Seriously, it's bad enough that hardly anything in Google works together but at the very least if you called it "Google Home" I'd think twice about buying it to augment my Nest system.  Instead, I have to check two apps, maintain two "aware" subscriptions, and god forbid you need to grab a video that shows a break in or damage to your property to send to carriers or an insurance company since you'll be fiddling with how to clip, save, download, and attach video on a 4" screen across two apps because some HIPPO at Google feels like mobile-first is the only way to go.  I'm so glad Ubiquiti is getting into this game.

You are right on in everything you said, except that I don't know why you said you need two Nest Aware subscriptions. You shouldn't, as long as all of your Google Nest cameras and doorbells are in the same "home" or "structure". We added one new Google Nest Camera (Battery) plugged in with the optional cable in Sept. 2021, and it's included in the same Nest Aware Plus subscription that covers our older cameras and doorbells under our one "home".

Did you migrate your account to Google or stay with Nest email/pw?  In case of the latter, I wasn't able to see my years-long subscription in Home and received many prompts to sign up for the "trial"

@abobo

We migrated from our Nest account and email to a Google account with a gmail address a couple of years ago. I don't recall having any problems, but other customers in this forum have posted about problems. Originally, we had separate subscriptions for each camera/doorbell--what Google Nest is now calling a "Nest Aware 1st gen". We switched to Nest Aware Plus in mid-2020. I think you have to have a Google account in order to have a Nest Aware or Nest Aware Plus (2nd gen) subscription, which covers all of the cameras in your home.

This is one of Google Nest Help's pages on Nest Aware subscriptions: https://support.google.com/store/answer/9396337

Thanks, helpful info!  The issue for me was breaking all connections to and skills from Alexa in the migration, but had to do it eventually or my new cameras were half-useless.
