Night vision auto default issue that started 12/11/23

I noticed my doorbell camera was black and white as opposed to color all of a sudden. I have not changed any settings for my 8 cameras, they have always been set to night vision auto default. Has anyone else experienced this issue this week. I’ve noticed on most but not all of my cameras. It’s not an issue that is happening to one particular type of camera I have wired, doorbell, battery operated.0E5EE944-A92E-4081-A670-EF6D6A8ABE2D.png8A0BC488-1E08-4E0D-B367-1CA7B4E92650.png

Hi Adj,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. When night vision is on, video is streamed in black and white, even if there’s plenty of light in the scene. When night vision is set to Auto, Nest cameras wait to switch between normal and night modes only when the light gradually changes. For instance, at dusk or dawn, when the lighting is marginal. Some cameras flip back and forth between normal and night modes, which makes the video too light or too dark. Try restarting your Nest Doorbell and turn off and auto the settings.

Let us know how it goes.

Regards,

Emerson

Again, this is a new issue. Cameras have always been set to auto default, the lights have always been there. I’ve provided two images for two different cameras that show dates and times for before this issue and after.  This is not my cameras, this is a google issue.

Hey Adj,

Thanks for getting back to us. Try removing your Nest Doorbell from your app, reset it to the factory default and re-add it back to the app. Just a reminder, all of your recorded events will be deleted after the reset.

To reset (For Nest Doorbell battery:

  1. Locate the reset pinhole on the back of your Nest Doorbell.
Tip: The reset pin on your Nest Doorbell (battery) is located below the USB port on the back of the doorbell.
  2. Insert and hold the pin (you can use an unfolded paperclip or a thumbtack):
    • At 10 seconds, the status light will blink yellow four times, and you’ll hear a countdown tone.
    • At 12 seconds, the status light will be steady, solid yellow while the doorbell starts the factory reset, and you’ll hear a confirmation tone.
  3. Release the button. Your Nest Doorbell will restore to its factory settings.
  4. After the factory reset, your Nest Doorbell will appear as “Offline” in the app until you remove it.
  5. To remove it from the app, open the app, then tap Settings Nest settings icon Remove device Confirm.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Emerson

As I mentioned the colored photo has always looked like that regardless of the night vision (auto default) setting. I didn’t change any settings it appeared as black and white last Monday.

Also when is Google going to resolve the issues with the  1.69 OPENMASTER 388143 version. All my cameras are horrible at night and have been since 1.67 was rolled out in May.

Here are two photos with a morning comparison.  Pay attention to the arrows in both photos, you can see lights on in both photos  the dark image is a screen shot from 12/12, the colored screen shot 12/11.8CEA8758-7088-412B-9579-056A32F32778.jpegC310AFFC-4711-4FFA-860B-7C78B268937F.jpeg

Here is another example of a camera on the side of my home. Again, no settings were changed by me  9400B20B-2B98-449B-9C3C-810E80BCD291.jpeg300C880B-EB8C-471E-8CCC-9396F688BED4.jpeg

Hello Adj,

If there are any light sources in the area, the camera may be able to see even farther. Night Vision video quality can be affected by internet speed and other issues, but most Night Vision specific issues are caused by the camera’s infrared light that reflects off a surface near the camera, like a shelf, window, window screen, or wall.

Give these steps a try:

  • Try changing the position of your Nest Camera to ensure the entire front of the camera is unobstructed.
  • Move your Nest Camera to another room or area. If the issue persists, gather another screenshot for comparison to the original.
  • If you’re still having the same issue, try using the Zoom and Enhance option to exclude the reflection from your camera's field of view.

Looking forward to your response.

Thanks,

Emerson
