Notifications (motion alerts)

We have 4 Google outdoor Nest cams and 2 “original” (pre-Google) wired Nest cams.  For weeks now, none are sending me push notifications for motion alerts.

My wife still gets them.  We have the same model iPhone and on the same iOS version.  Have gone through settings for each camera, in the Google Home and original Nest apps, and general iPhone settings.  All match between our devices.  We can be sitting side by side, connected to the same network, and she receives an alert and I don’t.

Any suggestions?

@CCH

It sounds like all of your cameras were probably installed in the Google Nest app. On your iPhone, have you checked on your iPhone under Settings | Notifications | Nest to see whether notifications are enabled there?

You could also try deleting and reinstalling the Google Nest app. A couple of years ago I stopped getting doorbell notifications on my iPhone, and deleting and reinstalling the Google Nest app fixed the problem. You don't lose any settings; you just log back into the Google Nest app with your current credentials.

Yes, have checked all settings - in app, iPhone settings, etc.  Every setting between my wife’s phone and mine match 100%.  Have not tried deleting and reinstalling the app, though.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Hey everyone,

@CCH, I wanted to check in and see if you still need any assistance. How’s it going with your Nest cameras? Did reinstalling the Nest app fix the issue?

If you haven’t done so already, check out this handy guide to help you troubleshoot Nest notifications that aren’t working.

Reach out if you have any questions.

Thanks for the help, MplsCustomer.

All the best,

Lance

I uninstalled and reinstalled to Google Home app.  It has not fixed the issue - I still do not receive any motion alerts from any of the 4 wireless Google Nest cameras.

Oddly enough, I do receive motion alerts from the 3 original Nest cams (pre-Google).  But those come from the original nest app, not the Google Home app.

So it does appear the ongoing problem is with the Home app push notifications.  My wife still receives them on her device, but I do not.

Hi CCH,

Thanks for circling back and sharing your updates. Let’s try the additional steps below for the camera notifications and let me know how it goes.

  1. Open your iPhone's Settings > General > Date and Time. Tap Set Automatically, toggle it off, and then turn it back on. Make sure that the time zone, date, and time are correct.
  2. Go back to Settings > Privacy > Location Services > Nest. Make sure the Google Home app has permission to use the phone's location.
  3. Check for any updates for the Google Home app in the Apple App Store.
  4. Re-check for any iOS updates and install them if there are any.
  5. Turn off notifications for the affected Nest devices.
  6. Uninstall the Google Home app, restart your iPhone, and then reinstall the Home app.
  7. Turn notifications back on for each Nest device.

Keep me posted.

Regards,

Lance

This is finally resolved.

I followed all of your instructions, and that still did not fix the issues.  I waited about 1 week after trying all of that and was preparing to send a reply stating there were still problems when all of the sudden, as I was watching a live video feed from one of the cameras, I received a pop-up that asked if I would like to begin receiving push notifications for motion.  I clicked yes, and suddenly I've begun receiving motion alerts just as I used to - people, animals, sounds, vehicles, etc.  Very strange, but at least for now, all appears to be back to normal.
