Re: Let's Discuss! - The latest updates from Google Home and Nest

I keep getting vehicle detection notifications for vehicles clearly and completely outside my detection zone. It is making the entire system useless due to the constant notifications from a busy street.

Hello AppleN,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community. To know more about this issue, I’d like to confirm, When did the issue start? Are there overlapping Activity Zones where you don’t want to receive camera notifications?

Give these steps a try:

  1. Ensure your Activity Zones don’t overlap with one another. Remove and create new Activity Zones.
  2. Open the Home appGoogle Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. Tap Settings> tap Events > Seen events.
  5. Under “Activity Zones,” tap Add a zonePlus iconto mark the area you don’t want to receive alerts about. To save, tap ConfirmCheck.
  6. After you set up a zone, go back to your Nest Camera’s settings > tap Notifications.
  7. Choose the zone you just created.
  8. Make sure that notifications for any enabled events for the zone are turned off.
  9. Go back to Seen events > tap Outside of zone.
  10. Turn on the events and notifications that you want to get.

Note: Your Nest Camera won't send you notifications for activity in that zone, but you can still get notifications for activity in other areas in its view.

You are simply quoting the specs as the app should function. It does not function as such. My 1 single zone (and its opposite which the system labels as Outside of zone) do not overlap as the system defines the outside once you define your first single zone. That defined "Driveway" zone is set back slightly to avoid sidewalks which is followed by the road that is obviously fully outside of my defined zone. The settings are set to identify vehicles and people but NOT issue a notification; it still does for push vehicle notifications but not people thereby ignoring the "off" toggle for vehicles. This occurs day or night so it is not caused by headlights.  And the sun is behind the camera casting shadows away from the camera so it is not caused by vehicle shadows. Deleting and re-adding or redefining the zone size has no effect. Vehicles are still reported whether the toggle is off or on for the "Outside of zone" section.

Hi AppleN,

I appreciate the update. Try restarting your Nest Camera. In case you're still getting the same behaviour, you may reset it to the factory default. Just a reminder, your event history will be deleted after the reset.

Here are the links for your reference.

Restart or factory reset Nest Camera or Nest Doorbell

I did this yesterday and it had no effect. The app still sends notifications for events for a zone which has notifications set to "off".

Hey AppleN,

I just wanted to make sure, have you tried removing your Nest Camera from the app, resetting it to the factory default and re-adding it? You may also reinstall your Google Home app and Nest app.

Thanks,

Emerson

Yes and no impact. I will not be re-installing any apps or deleting devices. It will be easier to just turn off all notifications from this increasingly useless app.
