Setting up nest doorbell to nest hub

Dominique4220

Hi there, hoping someone can help. I have purchased a nest hub specifically to connect my nest doorbell so we are able to have the door bell ring. I’m having trouble connecting the two. I have both devices in my good home app but I can’t link them, when I click nest to link, I type in my google password but it won’t log me in. I also can’t add my doorbell to the nest app as the doorbell is already wired in and when I click setup it’s talking me through the step by step process but it was already set up by an electrician so I am unable to set up in nest up after the fact.
can anyone help with next steps? Thank you

@Dominique4220

I don't know what you're doing when you say "when I click Nest to link".

You cannot add the 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell to the Google Nest app; it gets installed ONLY in the Google Home app.

If, as you say, your 2nd gen Google Nest Doorbell and your Nest Hub have already been installed in the Google Home app, then go to your doorbell in the Google Home app and turn on "Visitor announcements" (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451).

Okay thank you! Visitor announcements is turned on. So how to I get my door bell to ring through the nest hub? I can view the camera from nest hub, but when the door bell rings I’m still only getting notifications on my phone not the hub. Thanks!

@Dominique4220

Is your Nest Hub by any chance set to "Do not disturb"?  Also, some customers in this forum have indicated it sometimes takes awhile before the "Visitor announcements" setting takes effect.

If you cannot get it to work, you could try contacting Support, using the link and instructions in this post:

Interesting! I’ve checked and do not disturb is not on. I’ve turned my Visitor notifications on and off and I still can’t get it to work on my nest hub. Will try the support link you sent. Thanks anyway

@Dominique4220

Maybe--as has happened for some customers--it will just start working once the setting moves through Google Nest's servers.

Okay thanks. Do you know roughly how long it can take?

@Dominique4220

Sorry, I have no idea.  I just recall a few posts where customers reported back that visitor announcements just started to work.
