Some Nest Cameras no longer allow notification setup

Recently some of my outdoor Nest cameras (not all) no longer give me the option to set up and receive notifications in the Google Home app. It works on my iPad and on my husband’s phone and iPad. We have tried removing the app and reinstalling it. Is anyone else having this issue? I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

@StephM

Are you unable to go to those cameras in the Google Home app and go to Settings | Events | Seen Events and enable recording for specific events and then enable notifications for those events?

Is this not working just on your iPhone but is working on your iPad and on your husband's iPhone and iPad?

Is this for 2nd gen Google Nest Battery Cameras? Or is it for 1st gen Google Nest Outdoor Cameras that have been "transferred" from the Google Nest app to the "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app?

Is everything else working fine for those cameras?

Hi - thanks for responding. to answer your questions, on three of my nest, outdoor cameras, which I think our first generation, when I go to settings, I only see device information. There are no other options for Notifications. this changed only recently as I was able to get notifications for these cameras on my iPhone before. All our cameras were transferred from the Nest app to the Google Home app last year. yes, I can set up and receive Notifications on my iPad and my husband can get them on his iPad and iPhone. Otherwise, the cameras work fine.

@StephM

We have NOT transferred any of our 1st gen Google Nest cameras and doorbells from the Google Nest app to the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app, because the option is NOT available for our three 1st gen Google Nest Hello Doorbells and because so many Nest app options are not available in the Google Home app.

If you "transferred" your 1st gen Google Nest Outdoor Cameras from the Google Nest app to the "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app (the option only became available on Nov. 29, 2023), and you can see notification options under Settings | Events | Seen Events for those three cameras on your iPad and your husband's iPhone and iPad but NOT on your iPhone, I have only two suggestions:

1) Delete the Google Home app on your iPhone and reinstall it. (But it sounds like you've already done that.) Maybe you even delete the app, then turn off and restart your iPhone, and then reinstall the app.

2) Contact Support (see below). Maybe there's something odd going on with the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app. Maybe it's related to the version of your iPhone or the version of iOS that you're on. (We're on iOS 17.5.1.)  Or maybe there is some other fluke.

1. Go to https://support.google.com/googlenest/gethelp.
2. Select a category/product family, and type in a brief description of the issue, then click "Next".
3. Click "Other", then click "Next step".
4. Under "Resources", just click "Next step". (Clicking one of the listed links will bring up a Help page page.)
5. Under "Contact options", choose to get a phone call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.

Okay so all of the cameras we have must be gen 2 or higher as they all transferred successfully.  We are running iOS 17.5.1.  Yes we have deleted the app and reinstalled it.  We will try doing your other suggestion and if not try to contact support.  Thanks.

@StephM

If you originally installed 1st gen Google Nest Outdoor Cameras in the Google Nest app years ago, and then (since last Nov.) "transferred them to the beta "Public Preview" version of the Google Home app, then they are still 1st gen cameras.  The only "outdoor" 2nd gen cameras are the 2nd gen Google Nest Battery Camera (we have one) and the 2nd gen Google Nest Floodlight Camera; they can only be installed in the Google Home app.

On your iPhone, under Settings | Notifications | Google Home, do you have notifications enabled for the Google Home app?
