Some notes on Wi-Fi compatibility of Nest Cam

Recently we migrated our Wi-Fi infrastructure to be Wi-Fi 7 ready. During the process, we found some caveats when configuring the Cisco WLC and Nest Cam. Just note them here in case someone needed since I can't find them anywhere else.

Generally, Hello Doorbell (gen 1) has better compatibility than Home Mini and Nest Cam IQ  (worst).

Possible symptoms when Wi-Fi are incompatible includes:

1. Nest Cam lights the Blue ring after power on then totally dark

2. Factory reset and use Google Home app to set up Nest Cam, the app says Wi-Fi connected (very confusing) but it stuck at Getting things ready screen and the Nest Cam stuck at Blue ring

What needed on the WLC side is:

With WPA3-Personal, ensure Fast Transition is disabled. None of the device support FT with SAE

With WPA2-Personal, ensure Fast Transition is adaptive enable or disabled. Also, PMF must be Optional or disabled. Similarly, Beacon Protection must be disabled.

Hi xionglingfeng,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I understand you're experiencing trouble connecting your Nest Camera IQ, Home Mini and Nest Hello Doorbell (1st Gen) to your new WiFi 7, and that you're stuck in the "getting device ready" screen. I appreciate all the information and steps you've taken so far. Let't work together to find a solution.

For better assistance, please respond to the following questions:

  • How far have you gotten in pairing your devices?
  • What's the color of the LED status light on your devices?
  • How far are the devices from your router?
  • Are you able to connect to the internet with other devices?
  • Are there any other devices that experience troubles with your new WiFi network?
  • What WiFi band are you trying to connect the devices to 2.5 GHz or 5 GHz?
  • Are there any devices or appliances (such as baby monitors, microwaves, etc.) near the device you want to pair?
  • During the process, were you able to connect any of the three devices mentioned?

In the meantime, we're always looking for ways to improve the user experience. Your insights are valuable to us,  so please consider sharing your thoughts and details by submitting them to the feedback form so we can address them in future updates.

Please keep me posted on your findings.

Regards,

Byron
