Sound for Nest

How do I hear when someone rings my Nest Doorbell? If you ring it outside it can be heard outside, but not inside. It is battery powered not wired. Is there a chime I need to add indoors.

@Aileenmw

If you do NOT wire your Google Nest Battery Doorbell to an existing indoor doorbell chime, then you can receive notifications on your phone or other mobile device, and you can also enable "Visitor announcements" to receive announcements on Nest Hubs, Nest Minis, and other Nest speakers (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/7672451?hl=en).

Can you explain how you would wire the Google Nest Doorbell to a doorbell chime? Is it possible that there is a way to get a wireless chime that it can be hooked up to?  I feel like I would have been better off with the regular camera there and a wireless doorbell. It is kind of deceptive to call it a doorbell camera when it does not come with a chime to hook it up to.

The device formerly known as Nest Hello doorbell, does come with a chime connector. Do you have this older model, or the newer Nest Doorbell 2nd Gen (wired)? Please let me know because they are very different devices.

I just got mine recently so I assume it is a newer model. It is battery powered and currently my home does not have a chime, but I have a good contractor who can put in a wired chime if needed. Does this newer version have a way of hooking up with a wireless chime? Or is it something that needs to be wired? Do these new ones have the ability to be wired?

@Aileenmw

This Google Nest Help topic has a video on connecting the Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) to an existing doorbell chime ("Wired installation"): https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/10732535?hl=en. But it does not have to be wired.

If you do NOT wire your battery doorbell to a conventional indoor doorbell chime, you can pair your Google Nest Doorbell (Battery) with one or more Nest Minis, Nest Hubs, or Nest Hub Maxes. In this case, the Nest Mini, Nest Hub, or Nest Hub Max serves as a wireless chime, using the "Visitor announcements" option I mentioned earlier.

You purchased the Nest Doorbell (battery) device then. It does not come with a chime as it is not compatible with any chimes as it is wireless. You can learn more here how to connect your battery doorbell to a smart speaker or display like a Nest Mini, etc. so you can set up the chime to go through that device or devices. Please let me know if you need further assistance.

I got the Nest Doorbell through ADT. Is there a way to have it work through an Echo Dot? I have one already. If not I will pick up a Nest Mini.

@Aileenmw

I don't know if you can get it to work with an Echo Dot.   You have to set up a Google Nest skill for Amazon Alexa.  We tried it with our old Echo Dot, and weren't able to get it to work.  So we get "visitor announcements" on our Nest Mini and our Nest Hubs.

User MplsCustomer is correct, I am not sure if the Echo Dot is compatible or not. If you have a Nest Mini, or a Nest Hub, they may be able to be used.

I got a Nest Mini and was able to get the doorbell to ring. Unfortunately when installing a new front door my contractor managed to break it. All that work for nothing.

Is there some way to get a Nest Doorbell camera fixed? When they removed it to put in the new door and frame, they did not ask if there was a trick to get it off and managed to severe a wire. The rest is in tact though. Otherwise, I will ask them to replace what they broke.

@Aileenmw

If they severed one of your two doorbell wires, someone will need to replace or splice the wire.
