Unwanted alerts from outside of zone

I have setup a zone and selected to receive notifications for that zone. For the area outside of the zone I have turned off notifications and event history but I'm still getting them for the area outside of the zone. How do I fix this?

Hi tomleen,

Thanks for reaching out. No worries, we’ll sort this out. When did the issue start? Are there overlapping Activity Zones where you don’t want to receive camera notifications?

Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try:

  1. Ensure your Activity Zones don’t overlap with one another. Remove and create new Activity Zones.
  2. Open the Home app Google Home app.
  3. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  4. Tap Settings > tap Events > Seen events.
  5. Under “Activity Zones,” tap Add a zone Plus icon to mark the area you don’t want to receive alerts about. To save, tap Confirm Check.
  6. After you set up a zone, go back to your camera’s settings > tap Notifications.
  7. Choose the zone you just created.
  8. Make sure that notifications for any enabled events for the zone are turned off.
  9. Go back to Seen events > tap Outside of zone.
  10. Turn on the events and notifications that you want to get.

Note: Your camera won't send you notifications for activity in that zone, but you can still get notifications for activity in other areas in its view.

Thanks,

JT

Hey there,

I tried this approach and I'm still seeing false alerts.

I installed nest cam and I created 2 Zones (Yellow and Purple). I turned "On" "People, Animal & Vehicle" alerts and notifications in Yellow Zone and turned "Off" all alerts in Purple Zone. I also turned On "People" alert and notifications in Outside of Zone. There is no Overlapping Zones.

I checked notification video (i) [information] icon, for more details, to see what zone triggered the alert and it is showing Yellow Zone but person/vehicle never entered yellow zone.

Regards,
SJ

Hello everybody,

Thanks for bringing this up to our attention. You're right, If you overlap 2 or more Activity Zones, you only receive a notification for the Activity Zone where the activity first occurred. If the activity actually happened in 2 or more Activity Zones at the same time, you only get a notification for one of the Activity Zones. We would suggest you delete your activity zones and set them up again and check its behavior. Hit this link for more information.

Emerson

I think I found my problem.

Problem: Getting wrong alerts.
Reason: I have rotated my video 180 degrees and then set activity zones and alerts. This is not correct.
Solution: Activity zones must be created before rotating video. After activity zones are created and alerts are set then we can rotate video. Now, I get correct alerts.
