Hi, are the doorbell brackets for the nest 1st gen wired doorbell the same as the 2nd gen battery doorbell, or will I need to drill different holes?

Thanks

The 2nd gen doorbells and brackets are larger, but I don't know about the mounting holes.

Hi Owain1,

Thank you for posting in the community! I understand you're asking if new bracket holes are needed when upgrading from a Nest Doorbell (wired, 1st gen) to a Nest Doorbell (wired, 2nd gen). I'm delighted to assist you.

The answer to your question is yes, you will have to drill new holes. This is because the two doorbell models have distinct designs and dimensions, requiring different mounting plates and screw patterns. The 2nd Gen wired doorbell is typically taller and has a different aesthetic that necessitates its own specific mounting hardware.

Recommendations for Installation:

  • Always use the mounting plate that comes with your specific doorbell model. It will include the correct plate, screws, and usually a drilling template.
  • Do not attempt to force the old bracket onto a new doorbell, or vice versa. They are physically incompatible.

@MplsCustomer, thank you for your participation.

I hope this answer helps. Please feel free to contact me if you need any additional assistance.

Regards,

Humberto
