Why restrict access to software and lose functionality

The existing Nest app and website are extremely good and useful and feature rich, the Home app is nowhere even close to them in terms of features, how can it possibly be a good decision to deny access to them for the new products? Why not just include the Nest app as part of the Home app, and just rebrand the Nest web since as far as I know there's no website for the Home at all anyway? Why try to rewrite something that's already close to perfect? Or at the very least, why not let users still use and access the existing Nest app and web while all the features are still being ported to the new app and website? Customers are losing a ton of functionality and convenience with the new products making it irrational to buy them, and those who mistakenly did are frustrated as can be clearly seen on these forums.

We are watching the end of a slow motion expensive acquisition crash that has played out time and time again in Silicon Valley.

Here’s where it started……
