Wired Google Nest Camera doorbell does not ring inside the house

I installed 2 nest camera doorbells and they worked perfectly when first installed. But then the doorbell did not ring inside.  Checked wiring connection inside and out, sometimes they would ring but most often not. Tried replacing with a new doorbell chime. Same results. Rang intermittently or most often not at all. Finally took down one of the doorbells and just replaced with a regular button. Any thoughts?

Have you checked for an adequate transformer as per the required specifications?

@Dawg89

Many customers in this forum, including us, have reported having to upgrade to a 16V 30VA transformer to get their older Google Nest Hello Doorbells and their newer 2nd Gen Google Nest Doorbells to work. We upgraded ours 2-3 years ago. Another customer just reported upgrading yesterday. It seems that Google Nest's minimum requirements (https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9247132) may not be sufficient.

Thanks. Since I can’t see the transformer, I don’t know the specs on it. To change will have to cut the sheetrock to be able to access the transformer.

Your transformer might be beside your electric power junction box. That is where mine is situated.

Either way, requires cutting the sheetrock

To correct the situation, you might have to bite the bullet and have an electrician try to find the transformer and eventually replace it as you said, by cutting out the sheetrock.

Hi folks,

@Dawg89, thanks for reaching out here in the Community. In case you have the Nest Doorbell (2nd gen, wired). You need a transformer that is rated for 16-24 V AC, 10-40 VA to provide enough power. If you've already installed your Nest Doorbell and you see a blinking yellow light on the front, your Nest Doorbell isn't receiving enough power. Hit this link for more information. Let us know if you have more questions in mind.

I appreciate the help, gilleslibre and MplsCustomer.

Best,

Emerson
