I switched from the battery doorbell to the wired doorbell since the battery doorbell did not work in the winter.
Installation of the wired doorbell went well as everything was already in place (like the wire and transformer). 🙂
My new doorbell is working fine but it is not recording video at all. 😕
I realize that not all services are available when not subscribing to Nest Aware (I’m not) but the battery doorbell did give me 3 hours of video history without a Nest Aware subscription (when that doorbell was working of course).
Isn’t the wired doorbell giving the same « service »? 💁

No. There is no solution to the problem above (other than subscribing to Nest Aware).
Thanks @Brad

Free retention of video event history for the most recent 3 hours is only available for the new Google Nest cameras introduced since the fall of 2021 because they were designed with the ability to store some video history on the camera.
See this Google Nest Help page, which says: "If you have a newer camera like Nest Cam (battery) or Nest Doorbell (battery), you can get up to 3 hours of event video history without a subscription. But for most older Nest camera and doorbell models, you need a Nest Aware subscription to get event video history or 24/7 video history. This means that without a subscription, you can get photo snapshots of detected activity up to 3 hours in the past."

We've never had free video history with our older Google Nest cameras and doorbells.

I apologize I misunderstood the situation. When it comes to keeping your Nest Doorbell (battery) or Nest Cam (battery) up and running, here are some articles and troubleshooting guides for the Best Charging Practices:
I hope those articles help shed some light on charging and maintaining battery levels of your Nest Doorbell or Camera!

Thanks @Brad but the battery doorbell was always drained during the winter months. It should be noted (and advertised) that the battery doorbell does not charge from the chime transformer. 😩

Thanks @Brad, I had to sell the battery doorbell at a great loss you can imagine after less than a year. 😩

I am sorry to hear that you had to sell your device. I can understand that there may be some who are not happy with how the 2021 cams work and function. I appreciate you letting us know and sharing your feedback!
Best regards,
Brad

It worked great to tell you the truth. Until the battery drained in the winter.
They have to make it "able" to charge from the chime transformer.

That is an excellent idea! Please make sure to share that in your feedback. Now as you're no longer experiencing this issue, do you still need further assistance? Please let us know.

Thanks @MplsCustomer This is very disappointing. ☹️ If I had known all those issues with Nest, I would have gone with a better product.
Seems like there is no solution other than the subscription… 😕

Hey there,
Here is a great link on how Nest Aware works and how to subscribe, and here is a link on how to manage your subscription. I am sorry to hear that you're having troubles with your Nest Camera and Live Feed! I would suggest getting a Nest Aware subscription if you are able too.
Best Regards,
Brad

The issue is that I did not need a subscription with my Nest battery doorbell to get the level of service that I need.
But then, the battery doorbell does not work in the winter (battery drains) and does not work on a drained battery even if connected with wires (and the same 30VA transformer that I still have now). 😩
