iOS Notifications don’t show preview.

Does anyone get iOS notifications from the Google Home App Nest Cameras (hardwired)?

All I get is this:

On my previous Nest Cams using the the legacy Nest app it works just fine showing me a brief animation, like this:

What gives?

I have both the NEST and Goole Home apps running as well.   My notifications look a little different.  However if I CLICK-and-HOLD they then play back a shot little timelapse of what was recorded.   Maybe try click-and-hold and see if you get what i'm getting?

Thanks for the suggestion. When the alert pops up it is text only - I do click and hold it - that’s when the video play icon with the line through it appears, but it doesn’t show the 2 second video clip and tapping the play icon just launches the app.

Do you do it a different way?

Thanks!

Mine looks just like yours but one difference I see is right under the text that says "Person Seen" it shows the date and time.  Then under that is says the name of my camera.

A few questions:

Has this ever worked correctly for you and it has just recently stopped working?

Are you here in the U.S.?  I know that Google has some variations of the software in other countries.

Can you check and see what version of the Google Home app you are on?   I'm wondering if maybe you are not on the most up to date version?  There are couple ways to look up the version but the easiest way I know of is go to the App Store on the iPhone. Search on Google Home.  Scroll down to the Google Home app (don't click OPEN) but instead and then touch it to get the details of the app. Near the bottom it will show the version number.  Mine says 3.12.104.   If there are any newer versions over the one you have then instead  of the word OPEN it should say UPDATE.  You should do this update.

Let me know how it goes.

I’m on the same version as you. I’ve had the app for a couple of years for a thermostat at work so it’s not new to me, although I never used it for my home cameras as I used the Nest App instead. However my DropCams are not going to be supported after April so Google sent me free replacement Google Nest Cams and they don’t work with the legacy Nest app hence my switch to Google Home for my home cameras.

The 2 second preview in the notifications has never worked. I am in the US also.

Cheers,

Hey everyone,

@StephenD, thanks for reaching out to the Community. I’d be happy to help you with this.

Please try the steps below and let me know if it helps:

  1. Check for iOS updates and install them if there’s any.
  2. Turn off all notifications for the Nest Cam (wired).
  3. Uninstall the Google Home app.
  4. Restart the mobile device.
  5. Reinstall the Google Home app and sign in.
  6. Turn on the notifications for the camera and check if the issue persists.

Keep me posted.

I appreciate your help, EmptyNester.

All the best,

Lance

Ok, Hmmmmm,  so when you first get the nest cameras that work with Google Home they give you a 30 day trial of the Nest Aware subscription.   I seem to remember that without the subscription you may not get the 2-second preview events.     Do you have the subscription?   Honestly the Google Nest cameras are super limited without the subscription.  If you don't have it you could activate it for 1 month and see if you like it.  They offer (2) versions.  One gives you event recordings and the other for about gives you a full 24/7 recording.

Here is a link that talks about it....

I'm out of ideas.   Let me try and escalate this so that you can speak with a Google Tech person.   You should see in the this thread a request for more information about the issue.

Well thank you for all you thoughts just the same!
