Ability to block BBC iPlayer suggestions

rogere84

The Chromecast with Google TV suggests BBC iPlayer content to us, despite not having iPlayer installed.

We choose not to have a TV licence, so cannot watch iPlayer, but the Google TV insists upon telling us to watch shows from iPlayer.

I'm sure that I'm not the only consumer out there with this stance, and removing all BBC iPlayer suggestions for owners who do not have iPlayer installed should be a priority.

Yes.  I have been trying to remove BBC suggestions also.  I don't think its not all that uncommon to choose not to pay for BBC,  interestingly though I never get suggestions for itv hub, my5 and so on

Yep, welcome to Google, they just let the algorithms do the work and buy other companies, this would be a nice feature but then you can't shuffle your playlists on yourube music either. Soooo many basic features missing 😞

I’m new to this but how do we get google to make these tweaks it’s so annoying. I use my5 all the time yet I get no recommendations for it. I never use bbc and I’m inundated with their programs

Hey there rogere84,

I apologize about the late response on this thread, thank you for your patience! I understand wanting to be able to blacklist certain apps if you don't intend on downloading them. If this is something you'd like to see in the future, I'd encourage you to submit feedback via Google TV. While Google won't respond directly back to your feedback, they take all feedback seriously.

I'm sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know.

Best regards,
Jeran

Thanks @Jeran - I've submitted feedback previously via the Google TV. Hoping that others in the UK will do the same.

We block a large majority of BBC domains in the house using PiHole, so I'm fairly confident the shows wouldn't actually load (but I can't test it because of the whole licence situation). It's a bit bizarre.

I'd rather Google promote movies and TV shows that I can purchase from them, than something I'm not even allowed to watch.

Hey there rogere84,

Thank you for doing that! I can totally understand where you are coming from, I also get advertisements from certain apps that I never intend on using. If Google gets a good amount of feedback regarding a particular issue/request, they are more likely going to prioritize it.

In the meantime, did you have any other questions or concerns?

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi Jeran, right now I don't think there's anything else. I suppose we're at the mercy of Google really

Hey there rogere84,

No problem at all, in that case, I'll go ahead and lock up this thread for now. If you run into any more issues in the future, please feel free to create a new thread.

I hope you have a good one!

Best regards,

Jeran
