On my TV, searching any of the apps with my voice works fine, but I can't get the on-screen keyboard to show up when I want to type. It tells me to use my phone. That works, but I often prefer to just use the Chromecast remote. I went into settings and found the Virtual Remote Keyboard which I turned off. However, that fix only works temporarily and then it's quickly back to not giving me the option of using the on-screen keyboard. What's the fix for this?

Hi Renee3,
Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. Are you using the Google Assistant button on the remote when doing the voice command, or is it on another device with Google Assistant (Google Nest speakers or displays, etc.)? If it’s via Chromecast Voice remote, you can press the center button on the remote to open the keyboard and type in.
Give the steps below a try and let me know how it goes:
Thanks,

Yep, using the Google Assistant button on the remote for the voice commands works. I rebooted the Chromecast but I'm still having the same problem: when I'm in certain apps (like Discovery+), if I press the center button in the search field, it still tells me that I need to use my phone. If I restart the Chromecast or if I toggle on and off the virtual keyboard, it'll let me use the on screen keyboard once or twice before reverting to only showing the message that I have to use my phone.

Hello Renee3,
Thanks for the reply. It seems that it still persists after doing the steps. But have you tried cleaning it up completely by performing a factory reset? Let me know if it persists after doing that and setting it up from scratch. We look forward to your reply.
