Cannot use multiple accounts in the YouTube app for Chromecast with Google TV

I recently bought a Chromecast with Google TV, and set it up using my Google account. My wife now wants to watch YouTube on it, but cannot log in with her Google account. We can sign out of my YouTube account, but when we try to sign in again the only available account is mine. If I click on "manage accounts", I can see that her account is added to Google TV (but as an "other account" not as a "Google TV account"), but there is no way to actually log in as her. There is also a way to add a child account, but my wife is not a child and obviously does not want a restricted version of YouTube.

Looking around online, this seems to have been a problem for the last two years. I find it difficult to believe that Google would not include this basic functionality in their own products. If I had known that this was an issue, and that only one person can use the TV, we would not have purchased the Chromecast and would have bought something else instead.

Am I missing something?

Hey there Gabbro,

 

I'm sorry for the late response on this thread, thank you for your patience! My wife also has her own Google account, with her own YouTube subscriptions, who uses the Chromecast with Google TV. I added her to Google TV, and it shows her account as an "other account" as well, but when I log into YouTube, I can select my profile in the top left, select the option to "switch accounts", and select her email. From there, we can swap back and forth using the same process.

 

Give that a try, and let me know if you run into any issues!

The strange thing is, this is exactly the way I was trying before, and my wife's account wasn't showing up. I also searched online, and found I was not the only one with this problem. Maybe there was a recent update that fixed this? Anyway, at least it works now…

I'm glad to hear it is working for you! I suppose there was a fix for this issue, but the odd thing is, I've never experienced it myself. Either way, it's good that it is fixed.
