Casting Qobuz App to Vizio TV

russ_777

Qobuz app on MacBook Pro (13.1) casting to Vizio PX75-G1...audio from TV to Denon AVR via HDMI/ARC.  Google WiFi mesh network with nearest hockey puck about 6 feet away from the TV that has Chromecast Built-In.

Tracks will play fine when selecting the mp3 codec in the Qobuz app.  However, none of the higher resolution codecs/audio formats that can be selected from within the Qobuz app will play correctly.  These include CD-quality (16 bits/44.1ksps) and High Res (24 bit/96 or 192 kbps).  There is crackling and distortion indicative of congestion.  I see nowhere in the app to increase buffer sizes other than the initial file load delay and of course nothing in the TV menu to fine tune.  The problem does not exist on the AVR end as it is capable of decoding up to 24 bit/192 kHz linear PCM via HDMI.

The question, should I not be able to get the above configuration to work on higher res material, is whether a Chromecast device if purchased and plugged directly into the AVR via HDMI could bypass the problem if it exists in the TV.  I do not believe the WiFi net is the issue as I routinely achieve 100+ Mbps links from devices to the point they connect with.

 TIA

Hi folks,

@russ_777,thanks for posting. You can try some troubleshooting on your TV like rebooting or performing a full reset then observe if it will make any change. Using a plugged in Chromecast device to your AVR is another option that you can do. Before you purchase, I would suggest you contact Vizio support as Chromecast built-in is open-source software, so they are free to modify it as they see fit, and that could create any bugs or issues that only Vizio would be aware of.

@Mrdavis76, thanks for reaching out. Does your TV have a built-in Chromecast? If so, you can check this helpful link.

Keep me posted.

Thank you Juni for your reply.  I will call Vizio.  I'm not inclined to reset the TV as I did that not too long ago when troubleshooting another issue (interface with AppleTV) and saw no change in the behavior of the Qobuz app streaming HI-Def files via Chromecast.

Do you happen to know the lowest versions of HDMI and HDCP that the external Chromecast 4k device will work with while streaming 16/44.1k or 24/192k music files as the payload?

Hi russ_777,

Thanks for the response, we’ll keep this thread open and wait for your update. With regards to your HDMI question, it will work with HDMI 2.2.

Looking forward to your response.

Juni

Think you meant HDCP 2.2?  There is no such thing as HDMI 2.2.

I did speak with Vizio tech support today.  None of the troubleshooting measures they had me take resolved the issue.  They were going to send the ticket to a higher tier tech support for further assessment, but at this point suspect the Qobuz app may be the problem, or it may be a hardware issue with the TV.  I hope to hear back from Qobuz Tuesday.

I did.  They indicated that they were aware of the issue and are looking into it.   I was also able to discover that if you stream via Chrome instead of the desktop application that it works correctly.
