Chromecast TV - no display on HDMI cable

Hi folks

I have a brand new Chromecast with Google TV HD unit and my television is is 4 meters away from the Chromecast. I used a 16ft/5 meter HDMI cable, but get no display coming from the Chromecast on a new Samsung TV on any of the HDMI inputs.  I then unplugged the Chromecast and plugged in a  HD set top TV box to test into the same cable and the display on the TV  then works 100% . I also tried an amazon Fire Android box and it also works fine over the same 5 meter HDMI cable in HD, showing the HDMI cable is in fact working.

Why would Chromecast not work over this same cable, but other HD devices do work - does the Chromecast need a special version of HDMI cable ?

The HDMI cable is an older "standard" speed v1.1 rating cable.

Thanks

Hello @PeterW102,

Thanks for reaching out. Have you tried plugging the Chromecast directly to the HDMI output? If it works, that means your HDMI cable is not compatible and might need the 2.0 rating.

Hope that helps! 🙂

Hi listairee

Thanks for responding. Yes I did plug it into the HDMI port directly and then it works fine.  Seems the HDMI cable is too old then.

Hello @PeterW102,

That would seem to be the case. A HDMI 2.0 cable will likely solve your issue then. 🙂

Hi  Yes Purchased a v2.0 HDMI cable and now Google Chromecast works.
