Chromecast TV off line in Home app

I've set up my Panasonic with Chromecast TV and it appears in the Home app. After a couple of hours it's showing offline. I've deleted the TV from Home, I've reinstalled the Home app, I've performed a factory reset on the TV but the problem is persisting and I don't know why??  I do have a VPN installed, but I've enabled split tunnelling for the Home app. I've also noticed that the TV remote is not showing in the Home app, it's just showing either test or ambient mode. Can anyone help please?

Hi iabw12,

Thank you for letting us know.

I'm sorry to hear about the experience with your Chromecast. I'm here to help you. A few questions: Did you get any error messages? What other steps have you tried besides performing a factory reset?

Also, I suggest checking the next information below:

  1. Make sure that your Chromecast and your phone are connected to the same WiFi network and if your router supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, make sure that your Chromecast is on the 5 GHz network
  2. To help prevent Wi-Fi or Bluetooth interference, move your Chromecast further away from your TV. Also, don't let it touch other devices, wires or cables
  3. Move your router to within 6 m of your Chromecast
  4. Restart your modem or router

For more information, please check: Troubleshoot Chromecast connection

Hope this helps.

Best regards,

Jenniffer

Hi Jennifer

The tv has Chromecast built in it's not a separate device and I'm sure they're on the same network

Hello Jennifer

For some unknown reason it all seems to be working well now. I've not made any changes although I did look at my router settings (without changing anything) for the past couple of days the app and TV are working well. All very strange?! I'm not complaining 🙂

Hi iabw12,

Thanks for your efforts towards troubleshooting with us.

Even though you already set up the permissions for the Google Home app, it is necessary to disable this option to avoid any connection issues with your Chromecast built in. Also, just to confirm, the TV control won't appear in the Google Home app since the TV has Chromecast built in and the control is part of the TV, so the app won't recognize it.

I suggest that you follow these options:

Enable these settings on your router, if applicable:

  • Universal Plug and Play (UPnP)/Multicast
  • Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP)

Disable these settings on your router, if applicable:

  • AP/client isolation
  • Virtual Private Networks (VPNs)
  • Proxy Servers
  • You can refer to this article: VPN issue.

After changing these settings, you have to factory reset your TV and process the setup again so the device can remain online. You can refer to these set-up steps.

Let me know if the information was helpful.

Regards,
Angel
