Chromecast doesn't close down

Hi

I have a WIFI solution with a max of 1000GB data usage per Month.

We're only using streaming to watch TV.

We're closing down the Chromecast by the remote control but the data usage continue.

It looks like it's constantly using 953,67 MB per hour

For now we have used 725GB and will reach the limit for April soon.

If I cut off the electricity for the unit manually there isnt any usage..

Any other idea ?

NB If this is a common problem for all its a huge waste og energy and CO2 problem...

Regards

Holger

You are right, Chromecast devices never fully turn off.  They are always connected to your network, making themselves available to any devices on the network, and contact Google for updates.    This "always available" feature is from when Chromecast devices didn't have interfaces and remotes.

But, your at-rest usage seems high.  Make sure you stop whatever you are streaming before you hit the power button.  Some services don't notice the TV is off and will continue to auto-play streams.  Also, you might try using the App Only mode of the interface.  That simplifies the data being shown and may cut down on traffic.

As you have discovered, the only way to absolutely stop all traffic is to kill the power to the Chromecast device.
