Hi
I have searched the forum and tried the following
1. Hold home and back key
2. Take battery out, then hold home and reinsert batteries till light pulses. Tried reconnecting device
3. clean out mic
I am using my phone as a remote which works fine for the time being.

Thanks for reaching out and for doing some steps beforehand — these are of great help! To cover all the bases, please replace all batteries at the same time. Do not mix old and new batteries, and do not use lithium-ion or any other batteries with rated voltage above 1.5 V. Factory resetting your Chromecast Voice Remote again and your Chromecast might also help.
