Chromecast remote won't go into pairing mode (flashes then stops)

My Chromecast remote won't go into pairing mode when holding back and home buttons.

The lights flash momentarily then go blank.

I have tried factory resetting the remote and that doesn't help.

This is now happening on two of my remotes, I have four Chromecast remotes in my house and the other two pair normally.

I have unpaired them from my Chromecast with Google TV devices.

I can't seem to find anyone with this same issue.

Attempt to enter pairing mode

Factory reset then try to pair

Hi bherbruck,

Thanks for posting — let's get this sorted out. Try to do another factory reset following the steps below:

  1. Remove the batteries from the remote.
  2. Press and hold the Home button.
  3. While holding the Home button, reinsert the batteries.
  4. Keee holding the button while the LED light is solid.
  5. When the light starts pulsing, release the button.

Try to pair the Chromecast voice remote once more. If the issue persists, factory reset the Chromecast with Google TV device.

Alex

I'm having this same problem and even bought a new remote but now the replacement is now doing the same thing. It won't stay in pairing mode.

I've reset my cast and all but the remote won't pair or even stay in pairing mode.

Hello Washudoinnig,

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you’re experiencing with your Chromecast Voice Remote. Let’s make sure that the Chromecast with Google TV device’s firmware is up to date. From your Chromecast with Google TV home screen, Settings > System > About > System update. Once done, restart the TV and then monitor your Chromecast Voice Remote’s behavior.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,
Alex

I've tried all these steps and my remote still isn't pairing, white light flashes for a second then turns off. Looks more like an issue with the remote.

Hi bherbruck,

Thanks for the reply. Try this workaround and let me know how it goes:

  • Remove the batteries and give it a 2 to 3 minute rest.
  • While the batteries are out, press and hold down the power button for 15 to 20 seconds to fully drain any static power left on the chipset/motherboard of the Chromecast Voice remote, then release the button.
  • Let the remote rest again for 2 to 3 minutes. Take this time to unplug the Chromecast device from power and give it a 1 minute rest before you plug it back in.
  • Proceed with the pairing process.
  • If it persists, factory reset the remote one last time.

Thanks,

Kimy
