Chromecast w Google TV dead, no output, led

My Chromecast with Google tv 4k was working fine until I turned it off and left my home, came back an hour later and tried to turn it on only for it to do nothing.

• The remote still works as the TV itself can still be controlled with it
• The dongle's led isn't lit up but the device is very hot to the touch
• The reset button does nothing 

I've already tried different ports, plugs and cables as well as letting it cool down unplugged overnight and it seems to have simply bricked itself for no reason.

Depending on what colour the LED light is, try these steps:

So no LED light, and you've already tried sensible steps re: ports/plugs/cables. In that case, I'd recommend that you contact the Chromecast support team directly.

1. Go to Contact Us - Google Nest Help
2. Select an appropriate product or category, type a brief description of the issue, then click Next.
3. Click Other, then click Next step.
4. In the Resources section, click Next step.
5. Choose to get a phone call, call or chat with the team, depending on availability in your country.
