Chromecast with Google TV 4K, screen always resets to purple.

Hi

in order for my Chromecast to work with my tv, I have to change the colour format (from memory to one of the rgb options).  (Until I do this the tv screen is very pink/purple - basically, unusable).

But everytime I switch off the TV and switch it back on, the colour format reverts to the default setting.

This is proving very frustrating for the family.

Is there any way of making the Chromecast remember this setting?

In case this helps, this does not occur when I try my other streaming device, a shield tv pro with the same TV.

Thanks

Matt

Hi Mamikel,

Thanks for reaching out and for being a step ahead of us. If you're seeing a purple or pink screen, please try the steps below:

  1. Try unplugging, then re-plugging the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) into the HDMI port, making sure the connector is plugged all the way in.
  2. Try plugging the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) into other HDMI ports on your TV.
    • If the issue is reproduced on all HDMI ports, it’s likely that your TV make and model is not compatible with Chromecast with Google TV (4K). Please contact your TV manufacturer. They may be able to help fix the issue.
  3. Try using the Chromecast with Google TV (4K) with another TV/HDMI display, if possible.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Jennifer

Hello there,

It's me again. I want to make sure you're all good — how did the steps go?

Regards,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer

My apologies for the delay in getting back to you.

It turns out of I set it to RGB 8-bit it remembers the setting.

In the event this helps others in the same boat, it is an older Pioneer Kuro TV.  The Color format during initial setup defaulted to YCbCr 4:4:4 10-bit.

While the tv does appear to handle RGB 10/12-bit, if either of these are chosen, the Chromecast resets to the above YCbCr setting upon turning the tv off and on again.

Thanks for your assistance.

Cheers

Matt
