Chromecast with Google TV 4k: "Camera feed is not available" for Nest Cam (wired) and Nest Doorbell

ColinGuy
Community Member

Edit: 02/23/2023 - Confirmed working on both of my devices. Thank you so much for the attention to this issue!!

When I attempt to see my Nest Doorbell (battery) or my Nest Cam (Wired) on my 4k Chromecast with Google TV, I receive a message on the TV "Camera feed is not available".

I just received the Chromecast at my house today (Feb 6th, 2023). It is running Android TV OS Version 12, Android TV OS security patch level July 1, 2022. Kernel Version: 4.9.269, Android TV OS build: STTE.220621.019.A2.9082754.
My Nest Cam (Wired) is on software version spencer-user 1.65 OPENMASTER 326080 release-keys.
My Nest Doorbell (battery) is on software version gq-user 1.65 OPENMASTER 326080 release-keys
I have a fibre connection to my house and it is a small house with no connection issues to any device.
Since receiving the chromecast I added it to my Home. After this error I removed all three devices from my home, re-added the chromecast first, followed by the Nest cam and then the doorbell. Problem persists. I then tried a different WIFI connection and went from my Bell router to my Google Wifi. Problem persists.

I then removed all items from my Home and unlinked all accounts. I made a new home and re-added the chromecast followed by the cameras. Problem persists. In between each of these steps I am factory resetting each device everytime. With this new home set-up I tried a different WIFI again, problem persists. I tried adding the cameras first and then the chromecast. Problem persists.

I ensured my NEST account is the same as my google account and matches my home. Everything is all on the same google account. I removed everything from my Nest account and removed the home again and the address. I re-added Nest first, then the google home and re-added the items after a factory reset. Problem persists.

Just a note, I can ask my Nest Hub to show me either camera and it works and displays correctly. An odd thing though is that if I ask my phone to show me either camera on my hub (Rather than asking the hub itself) my phone tells me "sorry it looks like cam doesn't support streaming to remote screens".

Another oddity I discovered in my troubleshooting is that if I am in the Home app, and I hit the letter at the top right, then go to "assistant settings" and then choose "Devices" the chrome cast always shows up twice AND when you click either of them the screen flashes and it does NOT take you to the chromecast settings (whereas if I touch any of my other devices like my hubs or speakers, it brings me right to the Settings screen for that item in the Home app).

Devices factory reset ten seperate times in my troubleshooting. Renamed devices, 3 different wifi's, 2 different homes including starting from scratch for every item I own by removing and unlinking every account I had attached to home and making a new home. Same with my Nest profile.

Problem persists.

I read the blog post from July 27, 2022 telling me that I can do exactly what isn't working, so someone please tell me what I'm missing. Frankly, the fact that I am having this much trouble with such a simple task is embarrassing for a company as large as google.

Edit (Feb 9th, 2023): I spent another day troubleshooting. I have previously had another google account, so yesterday I spent the time removing every association between me and that other account and finished by erasing that google account. I then went through the process of again erasing and unlinking everything, factory resetting every device and deleting my home. I started from scratch and ensured again that I only used the one google account to add every device onto the same wifi. I started with the Chromecast again, followed by a nest cam. It asked if I had set-up another NEST device yet which I hadn't so it said it would make a new Nest network ( i was very hopeful at this point), unfortunately, this did not resolve the problem.

I came across a reddit post talking about 'ghost' devices in assistant which I had on my wifes google account and the double chromecast issue on my own. So I went through and got an old google home app to try and remove remnants of these devices, this also did not work and did nothing to remove the duplicate chromecasts in my assistant settings. Problem persists.

Yes, I am facing this issue. I cannot stream my Google nest camera to my Sony Bravia Google tv. When I do so, I see grey screen with camera off icon in the middle. I am able to stream my cameras on my android phone using Google home app

If there was a fix, this thread would not be so big. Hah!

I wish Google gave a fart enough to fix this issue.

Is there a fix for this? I still can’t connect to my doorbell camera from my Sony Bravia  google tv.

This issue is never resolved as if today. Any updates?

Hi Jennifer,

I've got the same problem with my nest doorbell (battery) when I try to view the feed on either my android tv with built in Chromecast or Nvidia Shield.  In both cases, I get a grey screen with a camera icon and a line through it.  No feed is there.  Can you please assist?

It's not resolved

Where is the solution? Having the same issue

How ?

I got this exact issue on my Sony Bravia google tv.

Tried both a Google tv and Chromecast both error after requesting the stream to the security camera with an icon of no video. Casting from phone is fine. Is there some weird reason this should happen? Cameras are on multiple wifi channels. Could that be the issue? It worked 1 month ago though.

@JenniferV , do you have any news? How long will this take?

I tried Eufy doorbell with Sony Google TV and it worked via voice Google assistant. Then, I bough Google Nest Battery doorbell thinking that this for sure 100% compatible with Google TV and it doesn't work. Every time I gave voice command: Show me Front Door it says that connecting, but got no video and crossed out camera sign. I did restarted doorbell same thing, only works fine with Google HUB display. Tried to reach Google doorbell support and they say that since it work on display and iphone then something wrong with Google TV. Reached them and they keep boincing me back and forth between each other. Contacted Sony support and they said since all other commands are working then it's a doorbell.... By any chance, Google team, please confirm that streaming live view video from Google Nest battery doorbell is built in feature? Maybe we all asking for something that doesn't exist? Eufy is working with same Google TV, though.

Every time I try to stream one of my cameras through the tv, a blank screen comes up that says camera feed not available. Any help would be appreciated

Experiencing the same issue with Nest Doorbell (battery) + Chromecast with Google TV.

Same - been happening for the past few weeks. Google chromecast with google tv + Nest wired doorbell (2nd gen) and Nest battery Indoor/outdoor.  Interestingly my old nest outdoor cam and 1st green doorbell work fine (which stream via the google nest app on my chromecast)

I dont think your team is doing anything. I can see multiple thread posting same issue from last 1 year. and still NO fix.

When I ask my Google tv to view any of my Google nest cameras or doorbell I get a white screen with a marked out camera. Google recognizes the cameras but I cannot view anything on my TV.

There is no solution offered and I have tried to reset everything to try and get it to work

I tried connecting my CCwGTV to my Google doorbell wired second gen and it finally works for the first time since purchase. It seems like it was a software fix that was patched recently. Not sure if this patch was applied to the Chromecast side or what but it works now! Thanks to the dev team who worked on correcting this!

I have the same if I ask google assistant to show me my nest cam indoor 2nd gen (wired) on my hub or hub max, it only works if I ask the hub to show feed on hub itself (and same for my hub max) but whenever I use a different google speaker or my phone to ask google assistant to start the feed it gives my the message as stated by the OP.

Any solution for this????

I have two older nest cameras that stream just find within a Sony Google TV however the new outdoor Google camera I added will not. I realize that there isn't feature parity on the older nest cameras vs the new Google ones, however since there is a subscription service available for Nest Aware I was at least expecting the camera to stream. I am aware that the Nest app (on phone and on the TV) will only showcase the older cameras which in comparison to watching the camera on the Google Home app on phone is subpar. Even https://home.google.com doesn't showcase features like clips and the like yet. It's frustrating since you can no longer purchase the older cameras that seems to have more features and yet Google releases new cameras with less.

My doorbell to Chromecast /TV used to work fine but it still does not work. Anyone know if Google are working on it? They fixed it for some then lost interest as far as I can see.

I can't even get my battery doorbells to view Live on my phone. I have a support ticket open with Google but no response.

dstncaldwell how do you get a support ticket open. I have not worked out how to contact Google. I will do the same if you let me know a url. Thanks.

I go to support.google.com or I contact Google as I am a Google One Subscriber.

I am experiencing the same issue trying to cast a Google nest camera to my Google. Chromecast TV brings me a broken camera icon.  Everything is on the same account works from a Google nest home display and from my Apple iPhone, but not on the Sony Bravia 4k vh 2

just purchased my flood light door bell wired and batter camera. none will work on chromacast says feed not availible. the ability to cast to chromecast is the reason I bought these devices over ring. not happy.
