Chromecast with Google TV cant find 2.4Ghz wifi

Shaad_e

My Chromecast has been working perfectly until last week when it stopped being able to find any of my 2.4Ghz wifi networks, which are much more stable for some reason than my 5Ghz networks. I have done a factory reset on the Chromecast as well as having reset the routers, with no luck. Trying to search for the 2.4Ghz networks manually or by name also doesn't find them. Even when creating mobile hotshots from my phone it only detects the 5Ghz wifi hotspot, not the 2.4Ghz one from the same device. Please help!

Hey there Shaad_e,

I'm sorry to hear that your Chromecast with Google TV is having some connection issues! Networking can be pretty tricky to troubleshoot, so I'd be happy to help out. First thing, check to make sure your Chromecast's firmware is up-to-date. Then, double-check to see if other devices can connect to your 2.4GHz, just to make sure that isn't the issue. Finally, go ahead and follow the steps in this article and see if they help.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hello there,

I appreciate your help here, Jeran.

Shaad_e, how's it going? Have you tried the suggested steps shared by Jeran? Still need help? You may try to use a different mobile phone and make sure it is connected to your 2.4 GHz network before setting up your Chromecast with Google TV (4K). Also, try to plug in your device on a different HDMI port on your TV.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

The current setup used to work, so not sure what has caused it to stop. Do you think it could be the latest firmware update? I will try to reinstall with Google Home on a different phone and also a different HDMI port. Thank you!

Hey Shaad_e,

Thanks for getting back to us. We can't tell if the new firmware update is causing the issue. Let me know how it goes after doing the suggested troubleshooting steps.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Hello there,

It's me again. How's it going? Were you able to try the steps?

Regards,

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer, reinstalling from a different phone seems to have helped the Chromecast find one of the 2.4ghz WiFi networks I have. So that's an improvement! Not sure why it isn't finding all the networks my other devices can, but working for now! Thank you

Hi Jeran,

Thanks for the feedback and link provided. The device has the latest firmware update and I can connect my other devices (laptop and phones) to the 2.4Ghz networks. When I reset the router, the 2.4Ghz networks appear briefly, but often disappear again before they connect.
