My Chromecast (with Google TV/4K) is a little more than a year old (just outside of warranty) and suddenly stopped working. White light on the device comes on, but there is nothing on the TV. I've tried different HDMI ports and different TVs, still no joy. I tried to do the factory reset, but no matter how long I hold down the reset button, nothing changes. Is the garbage the only place for it?

Exactly the same issue for me.

Hi folks,
Thanks for reaching out to the Chromecast Community forum and I'm sorry to hear that you're having an issue with your Chromecast with Google TV(4k).
Ryan888, could you please try to unplug your Chromecast and plug it back in after 24 hours?
marinerhemant and UWSGoggle, may I know what troubleshooting steps have you tried so far?
Thanks,
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer, thanks a lot for the reply. I plugged the unit back in after it being unplugged for several days and there was a slight change -- now instead of being a blank black screen I got the single Google "G" in the middle of the screen. I left it on for 45 minutes and there was no change, still just a "G" there. I tried unplugging it after that (for a couple minutes) and plugging it back in, still just a "G".

Exactly same issue for me.

Hey Ryan888,
Thanks for the update. Could you please try to shutdown your TV by turning it off and unplugging from the power outlet, then plug it back in after 2 minutes? Also, reboot your Wi-Fi router and move your devices closer to each other. Let me know how it goes.
Regards,
Jennifer

Hello there,
It's me again. How's it going? Did you manage to get your device working?
Thanks,
Jennifer

Hey Jennifer, I rebooted wifi, unplugged TV (and Chromecast), plugged everything back in. I'm back to the "G" screen (not blank). Not sure if that's an improvement. It just sits there, doesn't change.

Hi Ryan888,
I'm sorry for the late response. It looks like we have exhausted all possible troubleshooting steps and the last thing that we need to do is to replace the device. However, you've mentioned that it is already outside the warranty period. In this case, we'll not be able to replace your device.
I know that this is not the answer you're looking for but, I hope you understand. Let me know if you have other questions and concerns otherwise, I'll be locking this thread after 24 hours.
Thanks,
Jennifer

Mine is filling a landfill now, as per Google support and your recommendation.

To summarize, here's what Google has done:
Bricked a number of Chromecast devices via software updates, then ask for users to buy new ones! What diagnostics did you suggest? Restart and try to reset?

Hello marinerhemant,
I understand why you feel that way. Rest assured that we'll take note of it and we'll take your experience as feedback — we'll learn from this to deliver a better process and experience in the future.
Thanks,
Jennifer
