Chromecast with Google Tv update Android 12

MikeCast

I know and my Chromecast with google tv was showing until this morning an update to Android 12, that I couldn't download for some reason, probably the router or the internet compatibility issue. This morning I changed the router, the same type actually, from the internet provider, I tried to change it from wifi 5 to wifi 4, ac to n, go to Chromecast try again to update, and surprise, "Your system is up to date", but the system shows same android 10. Did google retract the update? Is this a coincidence or it is my internet connection? The apps are definitely connected, and youtube, Netflix, etc are working.

Thank you for helping out on this thread, RXShorty!

Hey there everyone,

Go ahead and check for the update again. I was able to upgrade my Chromecast with Google TV to Android 12 earlier today. Here is how to do so:
From the Google TV home screen, at the top right, go to the profile icon.

  1. Select Settings and then System.
  2. Select About and then System update and then Check for update.
  3. Install any available updates.

Let me know if you have any more issues, we're always happy to help.

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi @MikeCast

Well I had to press check for update button a second time to get the update.

Maybe worth a shot pressing check for update a few times? 😊

Thank you for the reply, I tried it for a couple of times already like 4-5 times at least. I am trying a different router now, cannot change the internet provider, but I'll try a hotspot to see if there's any difference.

Same here, I have tried multiple times today and yesterday and it always says "up to date".   I even did a factory reset and still no update available.

They probably retracted the update due to complains received that the update are making the devices slower.

I have continued to try every day, including today and no update is offered.

Hiya rlw6534,

Just out of curiosity, what country/region do you live in? It's a possibility that the update has not rolled out in your area yet.

Hey there rlw6534,

I'll double-check with a higher tier of support and see if they are releasing the update in waves. I'll keep you posted.

Best regards,

I am in Ireland, and at first the update was available, but couldn't upload due to some connection issues. And then the update disappeared. Tried also with a few providers and different types of WiFi connections WiFi 4 wifi5 and still no update.

Hi Jean,

Just checked and the update was found and actually downloaded the 722 mb of update and installed it. Thanks for your help. Might be as you say come in waves.

So, I checked this morning and noticed that I am now on Android 12.  I'm actually not sure when it did the update as I didn't receive any prompts or notifications. and the UI seems the same.  It's possible it's been there for a few days as I was going directly to the manual update screen and checking for updates and seeing none.  Feeling a bit silly as I don't know when it happened.

Hi @rlw6534

Do you have the Google TV 4K or the Google TV HD?
The HD version came with Android 12 by default.

I have the Google TV 4K and it was definitely on Android 10 last week when I first checked.
