Chromecast with TV disconnects from Wifi all the time

Chromecast keeps disconnecting from Wifi while every other device in house is just fine and no issues with the internet. Its getting really annoying. Also, it never reconnects on its own. It turns off the wifi and I need to go to settings to manually turn wifi back on.

In addition to draining remote batteries too quickly, this has to be the worst made streaming device on the market especially when compared with my Apple TV and Roku Ultra. No wonder it was so much cheaper.

Just tried the Hard Reset as recommended online on some blogs. It did nothing. The Chromecast still keep disconnecting from Wifi about every 3-5minutes.

Hey there chromecastTV305,

I apologize about the late response, thank you for being patient! Were you able to fix that disconnecting issue? If not, I'd be happy to help out, since I know these networking issues can be tricky. Let me just ask you some questions about what's happening:

  1. When did this issue start happening?
  2. Are you using a 2.4GHz or 5GHz Wi-Fi band?
  3. If you're using a 5GHz Wi-Fi, is the channel range set to a lower channel? (36-48)
  4. What is the firmware version of your Chromecast?

Go ahead and check out this article on troubleshooting your Chromecast connection as well. I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran

Hi Jeran,

I never noticed your msg until now. Thanks for responding.

1. these issues started almost from brand new, since unboxing.

2. Im using 2.4ghz

3. the firmware is the very latest available, as I've made sure to keep both devices updated.

They also now experience lag from time to time, where the device simply freezes for 5-10sec and then proceed to follow all the button commands that were pressed during the freeze. The volume control also stops working with the TV (Vizio) weekly and requires repairing the remote and re-entering the TV model, upon which the volume works again.

I was offered to replace both chromecasts but never got around to it as I've been very busy. Does this offer still stand?

Hey there chromecastTV305,

Thank you so much for your patience on this! What I would try for now is to reboot your Chromecast with Google TV and your router together. After that, monitor the device to see if the same issues occur over the next couple of days. If the issue persists, it may be an issue that our engineering team will have to look into, and in that case, I would highly encourage you to submit feedback on this.

To answer your question about replacing the device, I'm not able to see if the offer is still valid, but you can contact Chromecast support to see if they would still be able to do so for you.

If you had any other questions, please let me know!

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi,

I've contact your support team through direct email. This unit still seems faulty (but my other 2 units are fine). Now in addition to continuing to disconnect from the internet, it also no longer recognizes the ethernet adaptor, yet it works fine on the other 2 units when I swapped them.
