First, are there any lights on on your Chromecast device?  What color and are they flashing or not?

If you have lights, then it sound like your TV is not set to the correct input port.  There should be an input or source button on your TV's remote.

If there are NO lights, the Chromecast device is not getting power.  Do NOT attach the Chromecast to your TV's USB ports.  They are often underpowered because they are designed to read data of thumb drives and not power small computers like Chromecast.
