Controlling tv with remote

TigerUnderGlass
Community Member

I'm setting up a new chromecast and none of the remote codes work for my JVC tv. I saw another thread saying to delete the tv from the list and try again bt as far as I can tell it's just cycling through the same 14 codes.

It's not even worth using if I have to use 2 remotes so I'm hoping someone knows something I don't to get this to work. Can the remote accept codes manually or anything like that? I'm at a complete loss lpand I'm just not even going to use this thing if it can't even control the volume.

TV is a cheap little thing... Maybe that has something to do with it. JVC model LT-40EC3312.

Thank you in advance anyone who can help me.

Hey there TigerUnderGlass,

I'm sorry to hear that your remote and TV aren't getting along, I understand how frustrating that can be. What I would recommend in this scenario is to look up remote codes online, find the JVC brand codes, and see what other brands share the same codes as JVC. From there, you can select the other brands on Google TV and see if they work. If that doesn't work for you, you may need to set up the remote up as IR instead of HDMI-CEC.

I hope that helps you out, let me know if you had any other questions or concerns.

Best regards,

Jeran

Hi Jeran,

Thank you for your suggestion - I'm going to try it tonight and I'll come back on here to let you know if it worked. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get back home to it until today.

So I've spent a solid 4 hours going through, remote codes and tryinf them all and so far nothing has worked.

It's especially frustrating because both my, roku and my fire stick have no trouble with this tv.

Hi folks,

Thanks for the help here, Jeran.

TigerUnderGlass, I'm sorry to hear about your experience. Please try to plug in the Chromecast device on a different HDMI port on your TV and try to set up your Voice Remote by following the steps listed in this support website article

If the same issue persists, I'd suggest you try to reach out to your TV manufacturer to check if they have additional recommendations as this could be a compatibility issue with your TV. On the other hand, you can try to use your phone as a virtual remote. Learn more here: Use your phone as a virtual remote control.

Thanks,

Jennifer

Earlier you mentioned using IR instead. How does one do that? Can the chromecast remote learn directly from the TV remote like they used to?

Hey  TigerUnderGlass,

Here is how to change the Chromecast Voice Remote settings in Google TV:

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Select Remotes & Accessories.
  3. Select Set up remote buttons.
  4. From here, go to the different functions and change them from HDMI-CEC to IR.

That's all there is to it! Let me know if this works for you, I look forward to your response.

Best regards,
Jeran
