Go into developer options (you have to enable them first, google how to do it) and disable HW overlays. It seems to help, but the problem is 100% on google, they messed it up. Fingers crossed they fix it.

This fixed it for me. No stutters anymore. There is also an reddit with this suggestion. Seems to help. This drove me nuts.

Hi exim82,

Thanks for joining the thread. We’re glad that yours is working, and we appreciate you sharing this.

For those who are still experiencing this, we’re just a few days away from its completion. We’re almost there; please bear with us.

Hi folks,

Thanks for posting here in the Google Nest Community. We’re sorry for the trouble, and this is not the experience that we wanted you to have. It seems that there are a number of users who are experiencing this issue. Kindly report this via Settings > Help and Feedback and describe what’s going on in detail. Make sure you include the identifier “CCT3 - Stutter After Update” in your description of what happened. The engineering team collects these for diagnostics.

Post it here once you’re done. We look forward to your response.

Thanks,

Kimy

Hi everyone,

Thanks to those who sent feedback.

The update roll-out is still ongoing and hasn’t reached its completion. We’re sorry if some users are experiencing issues while this update is still rolling out. We’re anticipating all of this to be completed by early next year or around January. Please bear with us.

Let us know if you have other questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Kimy

So there wont be a final fix? I have to use the "Disable HW Overlay" forever?

Hi everyone,

Just an update. The ticket status still shows open, and the last message I heard was that Chromecast with Google TV 4K is almost complete, while Chromecast with Google TV HD is halfway through. For the 4K version users, kindly check if you’re still experiencing issues, as it’s possible that it’s already completed. For the HD version users, kindly hang on since we're almost there. We’ll keep you posted.

Warmly,

Kimy

The update is out, but the stuttering is still there

I confirm. Update is out, but still stuttering. So no fix. I have to disable HW overlays in developer option every reboot. Annoying. Come one google.... Really?

Same issue here in Denmark.

Incredible that testing products seems to have little importance for Google and then when issues are reported action taken upon these takes eons of time instead of days or weeks.

You need to get hold of product quality and good customer care again Google or Apple is going to bitchslap you to death!

OMFG Google...  RIP

Brilliant easy fix! How come something so simple seems beyond Google?

Yeah, the fix with enabling the "disable HW overlays" works BUT, this is not the proper fix. The proper fix is for Google to update their software because those stutters continues to happen in chromecast 4K edition if you are running it without the developer options enabled. So right now, we are waiting for an update or fix to these issues once and for all.

Its just a workround. You have to set it ever restart. So, i check every day for an update, but it seems, they wont fix it soon. They should priorize it, because it is a bug. And for TV entusiasts its very noticeable.

Chromecast never restarts. You need to do it manually at least on LG C2. So, loosing the setting is not a problem for me. The problem is that I do not want to use temporary fixes on a device I paid the full money to get. Google needs to fix this, period.

For me its also not really an issue at the moment. I only restart, if i expect some issues with KODI. But i think for less tecnically people. They should just have a fix.

So today I made another update and still the error is not fixed. the picture jerks as soon as I activate HW overlays is normal again for what does google update if the error is not fixed

Thats just sad and annoying. I will check it too and give here feedback.

I got used to it so I do not check if it works or not, I enable hw overlays instantly after an update 😅

Came here for a solution, but seems not fixed yet? My Chromecast TV 4k sometimes randomly reboots, maybe due to my crappy internet connection. Then the disable HW overlay is reset again while my family cannot find the option, its pretty deep down the settings..
