DEFAULT TO ENGLISH AUDIO DESCRIPTION

Hello,

 

Every time I start Peacock and other apps on google Chromecast on my TV, it defaults to English AD (Audio Description).  It has to be turned off each episode and then defaults right back when a new episode begins.  Nobody can seem to provide a solution for this, can anyone help?

I'll escalate this over to the Community Specialists. I recall seeing other users reporting the same even though they are following Peacock's support steps.

Yes the Peacock steps only change the setting for THAT episode.  Right when the next one starts, it goes to English AD again...

Yep. I can't find the post/thread but the exact same thing. I don't think it is a Chromecast side issue as it was also happening on Android TV/Roku etc. I edited that as it may be a Chromecast side issue if you have other apps doing the same. The escalation will help figure it out but I wanted to let you know.🙂

Which other apps is this happening besides Peacock?

Couldn't hurt to reinstall the Peacock app and see if that helps.

I did let the team here know and I also suggest that you reach out to Peacock support to let them know.

 

I have re-installed the Peacock app twice, AND hard reset the chromecast twice.  Issue persists.

I know it's not Peacock because when I use my desktop or samsung smart tv to stream, it defaults to normal english

MichaelEColucci, may I know if the issue is also happening when casting video content from the Peacock app on your phone to the TV? Could you please tell us the other apps you're having an issue with aside from Peacock? Please reboot your Chromecast with Google TV (4K) and plug it in on a different HDMI port on your TV. 

 

Also, please try to reach out to Peacock so they can also check this on their end.

I'm not casting - I'm using the apps on the actual streaming aspect of the google tv.  Furthermore, it's not a peacock issue as this is not happening when i stream on my samsung TV which has these newer apps.  Please advise 🙂

I understand, but could you also try casting from the Peacock app on your phone to your TV so we can check if the same issue will persist?

I am having the same issue as well.  It's on my Google TV and it keeps switch back to English AD after every episode.

It's most definitely peacock. Each individual show's default settings are transmitted to the viewing devices. 

Ok, can you tell me where to update the show's settings?  Because it only gives you the option in EACH episode.  Then defaults right back

 

Wouldn't hurt to mention that the show default is written wrong, assuming of course that defaults are transmitted with the show. Pretty simple fix, actually. Quantum leap and Brooklyn 911 (I don't watch that last one). When only a specific show is having the issue, then the show must be the problem. 

Again, can you tell me where I update those options?  Screenshots would help

I checked on our end and it looks like you've already filled out the form and you're currently talking to one of our Senior Support representatives. Also, I tried researching this, and found this information from Peacock. This might be the setting that BonobianMonster is talking about. You can give it a try:

 

  1. Open the Peacock app on your mobile device and log in to your account if you need to.
  2. Select the title you wish to view.
  3. Once the content begins playing, select the Audio and Subtitle icon at the bottom of the screen.
  4. Select the English AD option from the audio choices. If you wish to turn off the audio description setting, use the same menu to select the language of your choice without the AD icon.

You can also continue your conversation with our support team so they can further assist you.

Is there a setting on the chromecast itself to set default parameters for closed caption/English AD?

The Chromecast with Google TV devices has the closed caption setting, but no Audio description settings. 

 

Follow the steps below to turn off/on the closed captions:

 

  1. From the Google TV home screen, in the top right, go to the user profile icon and select Settings.
  2. Select System ​​Accessibility.
  3. Select Captions.
  4. Turn on/off Display to show captions. Then, choose your options.

Important: Your caption preferences might not apply to certain apps.

Again this doesn’t solve the issue. The issue is English AD defaults on some shows streaming Peacock. Is there really no solution to this???

the steps above do not solve the issue. It’s frustrating that google cannot solve this issue given that multiple people are having the same problem. Casting from my phone, Peacock does not default to English AD. But that is not a solution. I should be able to use the apps on the chromecast as. Stand alone streaming service without this issue. 

Can you please escalate this? Thank you
